Position OverviewThe Associate Director, Legal Procurement manages and leads the global strategic sourcing for law firm and other law support services. The position is within the Indirect Procurement organization and Corporate Procurement Services group and would interact frequently with Office of General Counsel. The Associate Director will take an active role in the development of global procurement strategy, category management, contract management, risk management, stakeholder management, and supplier value management.

The position will develop and maintain strong relationships with key leaders within the Office of General Counsel. Duties and Responsibilities: Leadership - As the category leader, the incumbent is responsible to develop then implement sourcing strategy and ensure alignment, compliance and delivery of required business performance.Procurement Leadership - Provide the leadership, strategy and policy for the function by building a high performance engagement model with the business stakeholder in multiple geographic regions.Process - Realize sourcing management, supplier value management, risk management, supplier diversity and SAP as core sustainable processes and enablers of delivery.Performance - Drive competitive sourcing events (RFQs, RFIs, RFPs) and support vendor selection, commercial negotiation, and market awareness.Relationships - Build outstanding relationships with stakeholders that are oriented to satisfy business needs.Change Management - Adopt high quality change practices with stakeholders and build and implement an organization which is sustainable. Be a personal exemplar of the Merck Leadership Standards.Global - Ensure that the approach adopted is aligned with and supports Merck global procurement strategy and Global Category Management and Ways of Working.Procurement - Serve as a leader and exemplar of Sourcing Management and Global Category Management as a member of the Corporate Services Procurement Group.Diversity - Actively support diversity, both within Merck as well as expanding relationships and spend with Diverse Suppliers.Supplier Value Management - Implement Supplier Value Management with the key suppliers to foster innovation, manage supplier performance, establish a Governance Model, and ensure continuous improvement.Qualifications *LI-AS2 Educational: A bachelor's degree (Business or Related Area).Preferred: JD or MBA or equivalent professional knowledge of the law.Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M. or C.P.S.M.).Required: A minimum of 7 years previous experience in Strategic Sourcing/Purchasing or Consulting.Experience in non-legal indirect procurement categories.Excellent interpersonal & influential skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to make clear and concise presentationsExcellent leadership and team building skills with passion to solve problems and a drive for results.

Preferred: Pharmaceutical industry experience.Experience in a corporate legal environment either within General Counsel, Procurement or similar relevant organizations.Experience managing multiple simultaneous and complex projects requiring frequent communication, organizing/time management and problem solving skills.Ability to translate strategic vision into tactical plans and manage the change required to execute.Expert knowledge of technology sourcing activities including RFP development, bid response evaluation, and contract negotiations.Strong negotiating and contracting skills essential; global experience.High degree of flexibility and adaptability to deal with ambiguous and dynamic situation.Ability to work with C-level and senior management with professionalism and discretion.Experience working with internal and third party legal operations.Demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different disciplines.Our employees are the key to our company’s success.
