The Associate Director will serve as a member of the Department of Student Engagement Senior Staff Leadership Team and assist the Director of Student Engagement in the general administration of the Department in all areas including program and facility management, assessment, and budget management. Assist with oversight of internal Department operations, including: management of office operations, coordination of student staff retreats and trainings, and student employment administration. Provide specific support, guidance, and development for academic student organizations and their faculty advisors. Oversee and provide guidance to the Student Organizations and Events program area. Supervise the Department Assistant, student organization graduate assistant, and student organization student staff assistants. The Associate Director is a member of the Division of Student Affairs and reports to the Director of Student Engagement.
Required: Bachelor degree in related field. Demonstrated effective written communication skills including strong editing and proofreading skills. Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute logistics for co-curricular experiences, programs, and events. Knowledge of student development theory and issues relevant to higher education. Prior experience working with risk management and contracts as they relate to student groups, programs, and events. Ability to exercise initiative and work independently. Prior knowledge and/or experience working with student leadership development, civic engagement, diversity & equity, and/or a student union. Strong computer skills in using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and email software preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software. Ability to use standard office equipment including copier, fax, calculator, and computer. Technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems. Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the University. Ability to evaluate data, assess alternatives, and make decisions and/or recommendations as required. Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with competing demands, interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload and the ability to carry out duties in a timely manner. Ability to formulate and communicate logical and sound conclusions and recommendations. Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Proven ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments. Skill to prepare basic financial forms and reconcile expenses. Skill to perform arithmetic calculations such as add, subtract, multiply, divide, and percentages. Ability to make travel and lodging arrangements. Effectiveness in establishing rapport with and engaging faculty in student organization advisement and collaborative programs. Analytical skills to assisting interpreting statistical data and evaluating program effectiveness and recommending changes. Strong oral communication skills and the ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends, commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and service to students. Experience in the hiring, supervision, training and motivating staff and student employees. Knowledge and understanding of training principles, methods, techniques and formats. Experience in the planning and development of individual and group training programs. Master’s degree in higher education, college student affairs, counseling or a related field desired. Five years of progressively responsible experience in the student affairs and student life areas in a higher education institution.
Desired: Prior experience working with faculty and academic program development and demonstrated ability to effectively problem solve with students and faculty. Working knowledge of University policies and procedures that pertain to the duties of the position.
