Associate Director Enterprise Application Architecture

Duties: Lead architectural initiative projects or facilitate cross-functional virtual teams to design architectures for enterprise-scale technologies and set standards; lead development of application architecture and software engineering methodologies and participate in tool selection and framework design; participate in major application projects as an application architect to both assist those projects and to transfer architecture and software engineering best practices; work with new technology and research and development teams to define insertion strategies and technical architectures for emerging application architecture and software engineering technologies; design, develop and document the enterprise application architecture and software engineering toolkit; define architecture patterns and use cases to guide technology selection and evaluation; advance the adoption of architectural standards, new technologies, methodologies, and patterns across Starwood’s IT organization; define requirements, strategies and standards for cross functional architecture services such as end-to-end systems and application performance, availability monitoring, integration of identity management architecture across application; collaborate with vendor architecture teams to develop and maintain Starwood’s enterprise application architecture; maintain strong awareness and expertise regarding architecture and IT technology; assist IT and business unit organizations in determining whether proposed solutions adhere to enterprise architecture guidelines and standards; promote adherence and adoption of the enterprise application architecture; provide and/or coordinate education about the enterprise architecture and standards; lead/participate in project reviews and advise whether the solution complies with the enterprise architecture and make recommendations; create and present technology concepts and issues in a clear and logical manner; carry out troubleshooting and support functions in a high-stress business critical environment with speed and accuracy; interact with a wide range of people with different levels of technical and business expertise to understand and assist with problem definition, identification and resolution; provide ‘backup” leadership role when direct manager is out of office or unavailable for extended period of time; and, enforce the policies, procedures and standards of excellence of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Engineering, Information Technology or related field, plus a minimum of five years of experience with Computer Systems and/or Application Development operations, including five years of Java/J2EE development experience; five years experience designing, developing and maintaining a high volume, large-scale, complex application environments. Must also possess experience with or practical knowledge of WSDL, XML, XSD, XSLT, HTML, SOAP, SOA, JSP, Servlet, JDBC, JMS and various related technologies and software packages. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be accepted.
