CPA Finance oversees financial aspects related to the various clinical departments within the SOM. The Associate Director of Finance, with an objective of achieving a thorough understanding of practice economics, will manage the accounting, financial statement and financial analysis process for the CPA. Additionally, the Associate Director will: work with the CPA and clinical departments to create formal business plans (developed within the required “Johns Hopkins” format); produce financial analyses related to new programs, services, and initiatives; and oversee development of financial reports associated with but not limited to profit/loss statements, revenue and expenses; managed care contract analysis, faculty productivity, cost accounting, forecasting, trending, and bench marking; and assist with special projects as identified by the Senior Director of Finance / CFO. The position, which will report to the Senior Director of Finance / CFO, will be responsible for providing a wide variety of value-added financial services to CPA administrative departments, the various clinical departments, and JHM executive management within the SOM and Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM).
Producing accurate and timely monthly financial reports. • Supervising, training, and mentoring CPA financial staff. • Preparing financial analyses to provide support in the understanding of clinical practice economics by establishing various financial databases consisting of revenue related activity, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, Relative Value Units (RVUs), and demographics among other key financial data. • Creating detailed business plans related to newly planned strategic programs, services, and initiatives so as to assess their profitability and success. • Analyzing and reporting monthly financial data. • Producing a monthly CPA financial analysis narrative report. • Overseeing completion of the quarterly Physician Clinical Activity (productivity) Report. • Preparing and distribution of various monthly CPA financial dashboards. • Managing CPA cost accounting and profitability analysis activities. • Collaborating and coordinating with other Johns Hopkins entities regarding JHM initiatives. • Preparation of annual CPA administrative budgets. • Monitoring CPA administrative budgets including the preparation of a monthly variance analysis • Preparing detailed financial projections including presentation of the impact of various outcomes as they relate to changes in significant financial assumptions utilized within the framework of the projection. • Developing and preparing various monthly revenue and expense / profit & loss analyses. • Participating in the review and analysis of proposed and existing managed care contracts. • Presenting financial information either written or orally to various JHM groups. • Preparing special reports or all other types of projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Finance or Associate Director of Finance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in finance, accounting, health care finance, or other closely related discipline required. Master degree in business or health care finance and/or Certified Public Accountant license is preferred. Requires minimum of five years related experience. Additional education may substitute for some experience.
Additional Requirements: Three years of related experience is required. • Accuracy, reliability, and strong analytical skills along with the ability to make sound business decisions based on financial information. • Strong computer literacy including skills in developing spreadsheets and word processing programs are necessary. • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures. • Experience with Cognos, IDX, and database manipulation is preferred. • Highly motivated with the ability to assimilate job requirements and employ new methodologies. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of staff.
