Reporting to the Executive Director of Communications of The Fu Foundation School of Engineering & Applied Science and working closely with other members of the Communications Group, the Associate Director of Web Communications is responsible for developing and implementing web communications and content of the website for the School as well as its daily management, including posting stories, video and photo galleries, linking to news items from other publications, prepping photos for web publication, creating pdfs and flipbooks; serves as a resource for Departmental websites; ensures that content on the School's website and the School's nine departmental and non-academic websites are consistent in tone; manages internal and external IT vendors; implements continuous enhancements to web content and design; performs other related duties as necessary. (1) Reviews and updates content for the SEAS website, including news stories, events, photo galleries, multimedia, etc., and adapts copy from offline sources for online use. (30%) (2) In conjunction with other members of the communications group, uses social media to advance the School by postings on Twitter, Facebook, etc.; (5%) (3) Works closely with a web technical team, to assist in developing new web sites and enhancements to existing web sites; (15%) (4) Recommends ways to integrate emerging technologies and best practices into current web sites and digital communications; (5%) (5) Serves as liaison with Department web personnel to determine web needs; works with CUIT or other vendors to meet those needs on a timely basis; (5%) (6) Compiles and interprets reports on website data using digital analytics, including Google and Facebook analytics, etc. (10%) (7) Creates and distributes the School's monthly e-newsletter, using content from the School website and input from Alumni Relations and Career Services, via Harris Communications or a similar system; (15%) (8) Maintains a repository for digital graphics images for all media use; and provides appropriate news and video content about SEAS to departments, the Columbia University website, and outside media as directed; (10%) (9) Troubleshoots Sundial, the University calendaring system that provides the automatic events feed to the website; monitors RSS feeds from Departments; monitors University website. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

B.S. in computer science or equivalent in experience and/or education required; proven ability to write, edit and proofread; excellent written communication skills necessary. Must have 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in web development and proficiency with various software applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, and programming/scripting languages and web development tools, including C, C++, Java, HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and Content Management Systems. Drupal experience a plus. Must be comfortable with and have an interest in social media. Must be creative, a team player, and a self-starter.

Experience entering/updating data with Drupal as well as template development a plus.
