Platts is seeking an Associate Editor, Markets, who will report on the trading activity in the regional North American daily natural gas markets. The key function of the role will involve the gathering and analyzing of pricing information and market intelligence, and then forming that information into published market commentaries. This position also requires keen reporting and writing skills and the ability to analyze in order to write clearly about complex market issues and dynamics. This position is located in our Houston, Texas office.

Produces daily news stories / market commentaries that are well-written

Identifies news/information and its relevance to readership

Reports on a wide variety of issues that impact commodity markets including, price trends, infrastructure issues; supply-demand trends and issues; regulatory issues

Develops and maintains an extensive source list with key contact information and background information

Maintains frequent source contact via phone; IM and in-person meetings

Verifies transactions or data information submissions

Helps with development and publication of price indexes, applying proprietary methodologies


BA degree in journalism preferred or related field of study

0-3 years' experience in journalism industry and/or natural gas/energy industry

Well-rounded communication skills that implement good listening techniques, clear, concise writing style; and good verbal skills

The ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally.

Works well in a team environment, focusing on collaboration and adapting to the needs of a diverse team

Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines

Able to prioritize quickly and to readjust priorities throughout the day

Knowledge of Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); and basic keyboarding skills (both speed and accuracy)

A basic understanding of economics principles is also preferred

Persistent with a natural curiosity about energy market fundamentals
