The Associate General Counsel is responsible for advising University officers of the applications of state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and the regulations of the Florida Board of Governors, the Florida State University Board of Trustees, and of the University, to various University operations. This responsibility necessitates that counsel research, interpret, and prepare opinions regarding application of said laws and regulations for academic, direct support organizations, student and administrative programs. The Associate General Counsel is responsible for the review of drafting of proposed University policies to comply with applicable laws and regulation, and assisting in promulgating regulations for all departments within the University. The Associate General Counsel is also responsible for providing advice and the preparation and/or review of documents or instruments of legal character, related to contracts, leases, real estate transactions, risk management, nonprofit corporations, garnishment, forfeiture actions, Sunshine and Public Records laws, employment agreements and the like, in all areas of University operations, including academic program administration, and administrative and student affairs.

Finally, the Associate General Counsel represents The Florida State University in all legal proceedings in federal and state courts, such as forfeiture proceedings, and before various administrative agencies of federal and state government. This responsibility includes the preparation of all pleadings associated with federal and state court litigation and all other proceedings before courts or agencies.
