The Dallas (Irving, Texas) office of WJE is seeking an Associate III architect or engineer with experience in the design, investigation, and repair of existing building envelope systems, including exterior wall, roofing, and waterproofing systems. Candidates should have the competence to review issues with building envelope components; conduct hygrothermal modeling; evaluate the appropriate use of materials; develop and critique details and specifications; and provide technically sound solutions for existing building envelope repairs and new construction projects.

The Associate III has solid, applicable knowledge in one or more of WJE’s primary practices and works as a project team member on all aspects of a project. An Associate III begins to manage small projects of minimal complexity and assists with all aspects of project administration on larger projects. The Associate III works as a project member responsible for construction observation, investigations, sample testing, failure diagnosis, and creation of client deliverables; assumes primary responsibility for key aspects of projects; and completes assignments with limited oversight.

Typical functions :
Researches historical background of structure, technical issues, and code issues

Conducts hygrothermal modeling using WUFI or other similar computer simulation tools

Conducts on-site observations of work in progress and prepares site visit reports using various reporting formats

Prepares baseline drawings, drawings based upon as-built measurements, CADD drawings and specifications

Prepares draft investigation reports, bid documents, addenda, change orders, and other work product

Conducts on-site inspection/investigation including survey and documentation of distress, field testing, sampling, photographing, and sketching

Organizes field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving

Analyzes research and investigation data and develop alternate schemes for solving problems

Maintains project records

Performs tasks to support office function

Participates in professional organizations, authors papers, attends conferences, and performs work on technical committees

Bachelor of Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or Engineering with additional consideration to those with a Master's degree in these fields of study

Professionally licensed Architect and/or Engineer preferred (on track to become licensed if not already)

Five to seven years of building envelope consulting experience with sound knowledge of building materials, field investigation methods, and scientific principles as they relate to building envelope performance

Experience managing small projects

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong computer skills including CADD and Microsoft Office

Interest in participation in local or national professional organizations

Ability to work in the field and to travel outside local area as workload and projects require
