Job Description:
Working directly with the Buyer to be the financial business partner on assigned categories on maximizing sales plan, item development and business component. Our Associate Merchandise Planner serves as a key role by identifying and communicating opportunities and risks through the analysis of sales, gross profit and inventory turnover. Associate Merchandise Planners work closely with the merchant team to help develop business strategies that sets HSN apart.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for financial growth and development of all Show Stoppers to maximize item strategy and reorders

Responsible for reorders for assigned hours across the quarter and year-end.

Contributes to the assortment plan reviewing purchase quantities and IMU for all business components

Partner with Buyers on the development and in-season monitoring of category business sales plans

Managing markdowns and retail reduction plan.

Developing, presenting and managing the OTB sales forecasts, inventory levels, business component sales forecast, bottoms up forecast, etc.

Forecasting the monthly bottoms up process and maintaining weekly updates

Partner with Buyers to determine order quantities

Identifying and placing purchase orders for reorder items

Forecast sales potential to attain sell outs

Meets on a weekly basis with Buyers, Directors / VPs and Show Planners to review business strategies Manages a weekend TS day in area in order to maximize net sales and margin opportunities by reading and reacting to the day.

Completes bottoms up financial packet for area. Demonstrates knowledge of comparison to financial plan and OTB.

Manages a business category in area across all business channels: calendar rotations, grid building, reorders, Show Stoppers, OTB, and MPI.

Works with the Buyer on inventory management issues

Demonstrates leadership through increased participation during group planning staff meetings


Minimum Requirements:
BS/BA in related field

5-8 years total including, 2 or more years buying experience at major retailer or as an Assoc. Buyer/Buyer within HSN, 2-3 years experience as Show Planner with financial and analytical accountability

Extensive knowledge and experience in analyzing data

Understanding of the merchandising process and product lifecycle

Knowledge and understanding of the HSN strategy, our performance against plan and the reasons we are or are not meeting our plan

Sound knowledge of the open to buy reports

Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, particularly in influencing and managing peer relationships, as well as, relationships with Merchant, vendor/guest, and programming partners. Demonstrates an ability to interact with senior level management

Demonstrates strong communication skills, including verbal, non-verbal, and written. Able to articulate business strategies and be assertive in the communication of decisions. Able to speak with confidence and conviction in a concise manner.

Demonstrates strong decision making skills with an ability to translate findings from analysis into a business strategy with Merchant, programming and vendor partners; including reading and reacting to the business.

Able to demonstrate advanced negotiation skills and conflict management.

Demonstrates a familiarity with market trends, awareness of competitive businesses and general HSN customer preferences

Shows ability to think both strategically and tactically in the management of the business. Able to formulate a point of view of the business and to summarize business opportunities and strategies

Has an advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook. Is able to create documents and spreadsheets: formulas, links, graphs, charts, pivot tables, etc.

Exhibits proficient analytical skills and understands basic and advanced retail math, metrics and terminology as applied at HSN. Is able to create all necessary recaps of the business for appropriate analysis.

Exhibits an understanding and application of Retek and SPT system tools for: pricing, flex, rotation codes, item type maintenance, item history, etc. Manages the pricing integrity of items for the customer at the keystroke level.

Exhibits an understanding and application of division Buy Plan and Merchandise assortment plans. Is able to expand and translate into action to the hour level.
