of Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, seek scholars for tenured or tenure track faculty appointments at all academic ranks in the area of cancer molecular or genetic epidemiology. Candidates will be expected to qualify for membership in the Cancer Prevention and Control Program of Emory’s NCI-designated cancer center, the Winship Cancer Institute. Candidates for senior positions should have a strong record of scholarship with experience as a principal investigator for cancer molecular or genetic epidemiologic research studies and interest and skills in teaching. Candidates for tenure-track positions must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and graduate-level teachers. At all levels, candidates with strong methodological background will be preferred.
The Department of Epidemiology consists of 31 primary faculty, an additional 30 joint faculty members holding primary appointments in other departments and schools, and 73 adjunct faculty, many affiliated with the neighboring American Cancer Society and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Research interests of the current faculty cover all the major areas of epidemiology. The Department also houses the regional NCI-supported Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program, the Center for Public Health Preparedness and Research and the Women’s and Children’s Center. The Department offers the M.P.H., M.S.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees and collaborates in offering a Masters of Science in Clinical Research degree.
The Rollins School of Public Health, located on the Emory University campus adjacent to the CDC, Emory’s Schools of Nursing and Medicine, and several laboratory and clinical facilities, includes six academic departments; employs 160 full-time faculty; offers joint MPH degrees with the schools of medicine, nursing, business and law; enrolls over 900 full and part-time graduate students in its masters and doctoral programs; and is dedicated to teaching and research. The School and the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center, with such units as the Emory Schools of Medicine and Nursing, and the Winship Cancer Institute, offer a wealth of opportunities for research collaborations. Emory University, a major research university, enrolls over 11,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
The Winship Cancer Institute is a NCI-designated matrix cancer center with 160 members from across Emory’s schools of public health, medicine, and nursing conducting research in the population, clinical, and basic sciences. The Cancer Prevention and Control research program, one of four research programs in the cancer center, has 31 members conducting research in cancer epidemiology, biomarkers, and chemoprevention; health behavior research; symptom management and control; and health outcomes and quality of care.
