Perform routine and complex assays in the Translational Pathology Laboratory. Serve as an experienced histotechnologist with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in all aspects of histology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques. Assist Laboratory Manager and other team members with methods development, quality control and SOPs. Proficient in project planning and troubleshooting all aspects of laboratory practices. The selected candidate will work in a new, state of the art laboratory that we believe is the most well-equipped histotechnology laboratory in any biotechnology company in Cambridge. Routine histotechnology is minimized in order to work more on high value, creative aspects of histotechnology.

Perform routine histology on tissue samples submitted to the laboratory. This will include harvesting, fixing, trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining and coverslippping. Perform data entry, sample accessioning and sample tracking via LIMS. Routine histotechnology will involve working with both frozen and fixed tissues and cells from multiple species. Necessary to be able to identify all tissues microscopically.

Has both theoretical understanding and practical experience of immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. Proficient in both routine commercially available antibody techniques, and the more complex in-house antibody optimization. Able to independently perform quality control on stained slides and troubleshoot when necessary. Multiple automated platforms are in use in the laboratory including Dako Autostainer, Ventana Discovery XT, Ventana Discovery Ultra and Leica Bond RX.

Follow procedures according to established SOPs and written laboratory protocols.
Keep accurate records of laboratory work by data entry in LIMS and laboratory notebook. Able to conduct instrument preventative maintenance and participate in the monthly laboratory maintenance schedule.Participate in bi-weekly laboratory meetings and present data to the team when requested.

Write protocols and reports.
Write Standard Operating Procedures and Job Aides.
Assist in teaching and training Associate Scientists when required.
Able to work within established timelines and meet required deadlines.

Assist Laboratory Manager and other team members in all other laboratory duties.
