Montclair State University seeks an accomplished, creative, and energetic individual for the position of Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. Montclair State, New Jersey’s second largest university, serves 18,500 students on a beautiful suburban campus in northern New Jersey, 12 miles from the heart of New York City. The University offers baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees and a comprehensive array of academic programs through six colleges and schools: the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; the College of Science and Mathematics; the College of Education and Human Services; the College of the Arts; the School of Business; and the Graduate School; as well as a number of centers and institutes. The University has an outstanding faculty, strong academic programs, exciting research initiatives, and a creative environment and spirit.
The Associate Vice President reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and exercises a full range of responsibilities as the Provost and Vice President’s senior academic affairs officer. Those responsibilities include the areas of degree program development, faculty personnel matters, academic policy development, research activities, and instruction. In addition to oversight of all of the colleges and schools of the University, the Office of Academic Affairs oversees a full range of functions related to the academic programs of the University, including Research and Sponsored Programs, Global Education, Extended and Online Learning, the Research Academy for University Learning, the Registrar, and Career Services.
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants must have an earned doctorate; a strong record of increasing responsibilities within an academic setting; a deep understanding of the instructional, research and service mission of a public university; substantial knowledge of the current transformations and directions of higher education; ease in addressing rapidly changing technologies relevant to the educational enterprise; a genuine commitment to the education of students; an ability to work collaboratively and effectively with faculty; energy and creativity; and excellent communication skills. For qualified candidates, the position provides for concurrent appointment as a member of the faculty.
The salary range and title commensurate with the candidate's credentials and experience.
