Operates tutoring lab and provides student tutoring services in English and writing both in person and/or in an online format. Typically performs job responsibilities for all SSCC campuses and serves as a liaison between the campuses as needed and the tutoring office. May be assigned to campuses as required to meet the Tutoring Center’s staffing and workload needs.
Scope of Supervision
Computer; printer; calculator; copier; fax machine; telephone; and other standard office equipment.
Student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement.
Good office working conditions. The work requires the use of safe work practices with office equipment, and observance of general safety and traffic regulations. Exposure to typical traffic conditions and hazards when visiting other campuses or other locations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits for extended periods of time and occasionally stands and walks. The employee regularly exhibits manual dexterity when working on the computer, typing and performing other related tasks. The employee regularly talks and hears when working with students and the general public. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision, with the ability to adjust focus when typing or reading a computer screen. The employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.
An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: Associate’s degree in English or humanities with a strong background in writing and one year of tutoring or teaching experience.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Valid State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
$8.00-$16.00 per hour

Provides student tutoring services in English and writing both in person and/or in an online format through Southern State Community College.
Assists tutoring office in scheduling of labs.
Evaluates and recommends resources to the Director of Student Success for incorporation into tutoring department resources.
Attends regular department meetings and training meetings as required.
Assists the Director of Student Succes and tutoring staff in training and evaluation of new tutors in English and writing.
Serves as a liaison between the tutoring office and assigned campuses.
Assists tutors with questions regarding discipline specific material as needed.
Works in support of College retention programs by assisting other departments when needed and performing other tasks.
Makes appropriate referrals for students in need of additional college services.
Generates appropriate reports as needed for submission to the Director of Student Success.
Participates in professional conferences and individual professional development training as required.
Participates in orientations, open houses, and other recruitment/retention activities on assigned campuses as needed.
May be required to work at any SSCC College Campus.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and punctual attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands.
