ASSOCIATE

Reporting Relationship:

The Associate, IRI Consulting will report to a Sr. Associate/Associate Partner.

Responsibilities:

The Associate will occupy a highly visible position central to the continued transformation of IRI. He/she will begin their analysis with a thorough understanding of the strategic context of a given project. For instance, a project may involve a pricing study. The Associate will start with analysis of the strategy underpinning the issue of how the given pricing issue arose. Pricing is just one issue with which he/she will work. Other pressing issues involve brand health, go-to-market assessments, collaboration assessments, brand re-positioning, private label mitigation, forecasting, product usage dynamics and consumer and shopper insights. The Associate will approach these issues leveraging their strong industry experience and a systematized strategy consulting methodology.

The Associate will bring a passion for statistical innovation to the team. He/she will craft tools, templates and reports that are foundational to the delivery of insights. This will entail the analysis of large custom data sets using advanced querying and programming methods coupled with a pragmatic business orientation to distill the data into easy to manage reports.

The Associate is a highly collaborative role. He/she will work closely with established IRI clients and their respective client teams to identify consulting opportunities and building hypotheses around them, incorporating facts derived from multiple data sources: point-of-sale, household panel, survey, client proprietary, third party. With a fact-based hypothesis in place, and working with their Associate Partner or lead Partner, he/she will coordinate activities cross-functionally to create and implement a solution to the client strategy issue.

The Associate will work across all client functions, up to the CxO level. Key points of client interface include Sales, Brand and Marketing.

Working cross functionally across the IRI organization will be critical. The Associate will work with all functions and all levels up to the level of CEO. Key areas of internal interface: IRI Analytics, the Market Measurement Group, the New Client Acquisitions Group, Retail Client Solutions Group, IRI Consumer & Shopper Marketing Group, Survey Solutions Group, IRI Advantage Group and IRI’s Global Operations Center in Bangalore, India.

While activities will vary, approximately 60% of his/her time will be spent managing projects/project flow as an individual contributor or project leader; 30% will be allocated to hypothesis development and the development of truly innovative application-specific analysis relevant to key areas of focus; 10% will be spent building client relationships, assessing client needs and implementing solutions. He/she will contribute to an overall team revenue goal.

The Associate will initially serve as an individual contributor. Over time, he/she may acquire direct reports. This is an exceptional developmental opportunity with clearly defined career paths to the position of Sr. Associate, Associate Partner and Partner within IRI Consulting or into executive positions within other IRI business areas. The Associate will be required to travel to visit clients, including some overnight travel. Travel varies by project, but can be as much as 50% of the time.

Requirements:
·
Two or more years of post-MBA/MA or MS ( five or more years of experience without and M/MA or MS) Consumer Packaged Goods ( CPG) or retail business experience in a top-tier consulting environment or boutique consulting firm
· Experience melding multiple data types into creative insights and calls-to-action
· Strong track record of applied statistical innovation
· Boldness to explore new analytical/statistical frontiers
· Advanced Excel skills
· Proficiency with database structures
· Subject matter experience in two or more of the areas:
- Brand Management
- Marketing
- Sales
- Market Research
- Category Management
- Pricing
- Consumer Segmentation
- Shopper Insights
- Marketing Mix or Market Structures
· Proven ability to maintain sharp focus amidst multiple priorities; keen ability to prioritize and manage time/teams/projects
· Strong listening and needs assessments skills
· Superior skills across all facets of communication
· Executive poise and presence; excellent ability to think on feet
· Entrepreneurial spirit; the drive to build and grow a dynamic and vibrant business
· A rigorous, practical, analytical ad fact-based orientation to problem solving and solution implementation
· Highly collaborative; proven skills managing cross-functional project teams
· While Chicago or the East Coast is preferred, location requirements are flexible
Education:

- Undergraduate degree from top tier university required. An MBA or advanced degree is a preferred.
