First review of applications begins on April 30, 2013. Position is 100% in totality: 75% permanent (general/tuition funds) and 25% temporary. The permanent position may be eligible for tenure-track contingent upon availability of permanent FTE allocation. To begin aproximately Fall 2013, subject to position clearance and availability of funds (i.e. receipt of P50 grant). Associate Professor Duties and Responsibilities
  • Pursue independent research and collaborate on ongoing clinical, physiological or molecular investigations with a cardiovascular focus.
  • Transfer and maintenance of a nationally competitive and independently funded laboratory.
  • Teaches medical students and/or cardiology fellows. Instruction may focus on the following areas: clinical research, basic cardiac physiology, developmental biology, genetics, or molecular signaling.
  • Serves as academic advisor to students.
  • Serves on University committees.
  • Serves as chair or member of advanced degree committees.
  • If a clinician, participate in care of patients with cardiovascular disease and the training of medical students, house-staff, and fellows in clinical medicine.
  • Other scholarly duties as assigned.
  • Professor Duties and Responsibilities
  • Same as Associate Professor, as well as:
  • Assume a role of professional leadership in the department and in the relevant scholarly discipline.
  • Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or MD from a college or university of recognized standing.
  • If MD, Board Certified in Cardiovascular Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties and recertification when appropriate.
  • If MD, licensed to practice medicine or eligible to obtain a license to practice in Hawaii.
  • If MD, demonstrated ability in patient care.
  • Four years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent.
  • Evidence of skill in presentation is expected. Such faculty should demonstrate increasing skill in organizing and administering educational or training experiences for graduate students, medical students, residents, or fellows.
  • High scientific productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding and current national level funding.
  • Ongoing leadership of an active research program.
  • National recognition for contribution to cardiovascular science.
  • Demonstrated ability in mentoring young investigators.
  • Professor Minimum Qualifications
  • Same as Associate Professor, as well as:
  • Four years in the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.
  • Proven ability as a teacher, scholar, investigator, administrator, and/or clinician.
  • Proven capacity for leadership in the professional and scholarly community.
  • Successful competitive funding at the national level.
  • Recognition as an outstanding academician, scholar, or clinician with a national and/or international reputation.
  • Regular publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals significant to the applicant’s field is expected with senior authorships.
  • Record of successful young investigator mentorship.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Demonstrated independence and initiative.
  • Scientific skills and experience not adequately represented at our school.
  • Renewed or multiple R0-1 grant(s).
  • Leadership role in a cardiology division; experience training cardiology fellows; and/or cardiovascular sub-specialty skills not adequately represented at Queens Medical Center.
