Responsible for strategy development, planning and execution within the Assortment Optimization function. The team will work with Merchandising, Space & Presentation, Real Estate Research and Replenishment. They will work collaboratively, blending art and science, using both financial and consumer information to form recommendations. This will enable process-driven decisions leading to greater profitability in execution of corporate strategy.

The Assortment Analyst is responsible for executing and managing the assortment optimization processes within the Specialty, Hardgoods or Consumables teams. This role will support and guide both the assortment decision making process and space change decisions for both major category releases and ad hoc optimization projects. The analyst will provide data, insights, tools, and recommendations to support optimization strategies. This role will partner closely with the Merchandising team to make sound optimization decisions.

Job Responsibilities:
Consolidate optimization data components and perform advanced quantitative analysis; Interpreting data trends and creating recommendations based on findings

Communicate optimization findings to Merchandising team. Implement and measure recommendations as appropriate. Provide scorecards to ensure PetSmart is realizing value from the assortment work.

Uncover and build a comprehensive understanding of the needs of customers within the separate lines of business (Specialty, Hardgoods & Consumables) and to then translate those needs into actionable recommendations.

Work closely with the various cross-functional and project teams as subject matter expert for Space & Assortment Optimization

Conduct Ad Hoc analyses using data from departmental databases, the data warehouse, CRM, and JDA to support merchandising and the general business.

Self directed and independent thinker

Ability to work well with people of various backgrounds and to translate your findings into well articulated recommendations that can be acted on.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to present recommendations internally and to customers.

Business focused with strong analytical background.

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, manage multiple priorities, and reliably get things done.

Ability to organize a complex body of information into a coherent idea and to then effectively communicate that idea to others

Experience/Education Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or Operations Research from four-year college or five years related professional experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MBA a plus.

Retail experience is preferred.
Monthly travel to Canada required

• Advanced experience with retail applications (SAP, JDA)
• Experience with BI/Data Warehousing Tool (MicroStrategy/Cognos or related tool), and demonstrated intermediate proficiency in Access, Excel, and other related applications
