The successful candidate will serve as a conduct officer in investigation and adjudication of violations of the Code of Student Life (CODE); provide leadership for development and Implementation of a process that is aligned with national standards, best practices and the law; ensure integrity of the program and ensure that processes are thorough, fair and reflect best practices. S/he will investigate student behavioral issues; conduct hearings and present cases to the Student Relations Committee for possible suspension and serve as a hearing officer for complaints involving student organizations as well as coordinate investigations and communicate with advisors/leaders.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs and Crisis Programs will manage critical incidents and emergencies involving students; provide direction and support to graduate students responding in an on-call capacity after work hours; make parental notifications as needed and appropriate; and advise the Dean of Students. S/he will manage all aspects of the Special Circumstance/Late Drop Withdrawal process.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs and Crisis Programs will serve as member of the Campus Life and Safety Team (CLAST), attend weekly meetings and provide leadership in absence of the Dean of Students. S/he will meet weekly with University Counseling Center (UCC) to review/monitor progress of students sanctioned to assessment through UCC and advise members of the university community on issues concerning disruptive or disturbing student behaviors. The Assistant Dean of Students will serve as a member of the Criminal History Committee and will review criminal background information provided during the admissions process. S/he will represent the Dean of Students Office on and provide leadership to University and Divisional committees including, but not limited to, the Student Affairs Council.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs and Crisis Programs will direct the activities and evaluate the performance of disciplinary hearing officers in the unit, the Coordinator of Sexual Respect and Violence Prevention and the Director of the Women's Center; provide overall supervision of staff, including staff training and professional development and management of personnel related issues. S/he will select, provide training to and supervise graduate students serving as members of the on-call staff for critical incident response; provide leadership to the Vice President of Student Affairs for campus emergencies and crisis in the Dean's absence.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs and Crisis Programs will write the Annual Report for the unit; collect, analyze and prepare institutional reports on all data as it relates to the programs administered through the Dean of Students Office. S/he will review the CODE annually; coordinate changes/revisions of the CODE with stakeholders as appropriate. S/he will prepare Dean of Students Office crime information and data for use in compliance with the Clery and SaVE Acts; serve as a content expert of both the CODE and the student conduct process.
The Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Judicial Affairs and Crisis Programs will relate effectively to and serves as a resource and liaison to students, parents, faculty and administration and handle difficult and volatile situations with tact and diplomacy; develop and maintain liaison and collaborative relationships with other University departments; S/he will represent the Dean of Students at campus events as appropriate; assume responsibility for the Dean of Students Office in the absence of the Dean of Students and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Associate Vice President/Dean of Students.
Master's degree with emphasis in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Education or related field
Seven years of professional experience in positions with progressive responsibility in a college or university setting
Knowledge and experience in crisis intervention
Knowledge and experience in campus judicial work
Strong understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the CLERY ACT, as well as recent Title IX policy revisions
Demonstrated problem solving and leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to manage complex administrative processes effectively and efficiently
Demonstrated leadership in comprehensive project management
Ability to work collaboratively across all institutional lines including a proven record of effective working relationships withfaculty, athletics, law enforcement and service agencies
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff and family members and to handle difficult and volatile situations with tact and diplomacy
Demonstrated understanding of issues facing diverse student populations in higher education
Appreciation and commitment to a research institution which provides a liberal arts education coupled with strong professional programs
Experience hiring, evaluating, supervising and training staff
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and excellent analytical and judgment skills
Criminal history background check
