The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing comprehensive human resources services to a defined set of University employees to ensure consistent and effective application of HR policies and practices. This position works closely with the AVP & CHRO in developing, implementing and evaluating ongoing HR policies, programs and activities in support of the University’s mission and philosophy. The Asst Dir, HR is also responsible for leading special projects to advance Human Resources department goals and objectives.
Employment - Support University hiring managers in the employment process including posting of open positions, identifying appropriate and effective advertising/recruitment mediums and in limited cases screening of applicants, interviewing, selection and negotiation of job offers to new employees to ensure that the University hires qualified and quality candidates, and that Park University’s employment process is free of illegal discrimination. Conduct new hire orientation and process all required documentation to facilitate the onboarding of newly hired employees.
Employee Relations - Assist managers and employees with conflict resolution, human resources policy interpretation and performance management issues to promote productive working environments where individual growth and development is fostered. Conduct investigations of ongoing workplace issues and recommend appropriate steps for resolution to ensure timely and consistent application of HR policies and limit liability to the University.
Compensation/Benefits – Assist managers with the writing/maintenance of job descriptions and complete selected market surveys to support an internally equitable and externally competitive compensation program that serves as a sound basis for pay policies and decisions. Conduct benefits orientations to improve employee awareness of benefit program options and process elections to ensure timely enrollment. Process position, salary and employee data changes to ensure accurate HRMS data is maintained at all times.
Leave Administration - Administer employee leave programs (FMLA, parental and personal) and oversee the coordination of workers’ compensation claim processing to ensure compliance with applicable laws and University policies.
Project Management – Lead both short and long-term projects in support of HR department strategic priorities and overall University objectives. Coordinate resources and provide timely status updates to the AVP & CHRO, ensuring project milestones and deadlines are met.
Training - Develop and conduct training for employees and managers to increase knowledge/awareness of human resources programs, practices and procedures, and to ensure compliance with key University policies (i.e. non-harassment, non-discrimination, etc.).
HR Development - Maintain knowledge and understanding of federal/state laws and regulations affecting human resources management, identifying trends that could impact organizational objectives, and advise the University accordingly to ensure compliance.
Other Duties – Participate on University committees to provide HR presence and perspective. Serve as the back up to the AVP & CHRO when s/he is out of the office. Complete other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
3-5 years of HR Generalist, employment or employee relations experience required.
PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
Excellent organizational, analytical, planning, consultation, interpersonal, problem solving, human relations, written and oral communication skills with a diverse group of individuals.
Strong project management skills; detail and deadline oriented.
Strong presentation skills with experience in effectively organizing and communicating information to a variety of groups of people.
Excellent time management skills required with the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
