Job Description: The Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Scientist. This is a 12-month, time-limited, non-tenured position. The ICBR is a well-established, auxiliary research support organization delivering key biomolecular technologies benefitting the UF life sciences research community. We seek candidates with a demonstrated record providing bioinformatics support for complex research projects involving multidisciplinary scientific teams. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, combined with a broad understanding of key biological concepts enabling an integrated understanding of biological data analysis as it relates to underlying biological processes. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide advanced bioinformatics support for genome-scale research and gene-based investigation. * Develop data analysis strategies and implement bioinformatics methodologies as required for biological data integration and, interpretation. Apply appropriate computational methods and data mining techniques for investigating genomic and proteomics data, from raw data through biological interpretation and reporting; * Possess skills and experience necessary to pose and answer important questions in a scientifically rigorous manner using computational and data mining techniques. Important skills include experiment design, statistical methods for gene expression analysis, algorithm development, creating efficient data processing pipelines, end-user training and client interaction. * Maintain current awareness of new developments in the analysis of data derived from next generation DNA sequencing instruments as it pertains to your central focus on next generation-sequencing data analysis

Minimum Requirements: * Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology with a strong computational background. * A minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience in the field of bioinformatics including an established track record in next-generation DNA sequencing data analysis. Preference will be given to those candidates with 3-5 years experience providing bioinformatics support services as a member of a genomics/proteomics research team. * Working knowledge of mapping and assembly for ,advanced DNA sequencing technologies (e.g. 454, Illumina, PacBio, Ion Torrent) highly desirable. Particularly higher-level interpretation of RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, SNP discovery, and whole genome annotation. * Proficiency in scripting and programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Perl, Python desirable) * Clearly and enthusiastically communicate the outcomes to both scientific and non-scientific personnel. Proficiency in both written and spoken English required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a Linux environment, running a cluster using SGE and BASH shell scripting is strongly preferred.
