Department Department of Athletics - Academics Qualifications A Master's degree; or a Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant professional experience in higher education academic advising or experience working in a collegiate athletic academic advising office advising student athletes; or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years including two years experience as stated. Direct experience working with student-athletes in a collegiate setting, with preference given to those having worked in large institutions with high profile sports programs. Experience working with at risk populations including students with learning disabilities. Knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility rules and regulations, and the ability to work effectively with student athletes, faculty, coaches, administrators, and diverse student populations. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion and according to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Background Check Requirements This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. Confidentiality Policy This position requires compliance with University confidentiality policies. Preferred A Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Athletic Administration; public speaking skills. Experience advising and counseling football student-athletes. Schedule Flexible schedule, must be able to work early morning and late evening hours and weekends. Responsibilities This position will serve as an academic counselor for student athletes. More specifically, the counselor will be responsible to monitor the academic eligibility and progress and to provide academic support, personal counseling, study table, and career counseling for assigned student athletes. Administratively, the counselor has the responsibility to monitor study hall and the academic progress of student athletes and report information to the Director of Athletics Academic Support and the Head Coaches of each of their student athlete's sports.
