The location for this position is flexible. It can be based in Richmond, VA, Washington, DC or in the candidate's home country in Africa.
ChildFund International has an exciting opportunity for an Auditor to support the Assurance Department in the planning and execution of risk-based financial and operational audits and reviews, in the evaluation and of management systems and practices, and in providing recommendations to management for improvements to controls, policies, procedures and processes.
This mission critical role offers the opportunity to see the world as substantial portions of the work will be on location in one of the 30 countries in which ChildFund works. The position offers a great deal of exposure and growth opportunity. The successful candidate will be independent, able to think on his/her feet and possess the confidence of ability to independently lead work in the field by influence as well as work with all levels of the organization including the Board of Directors.
The Auditor is responsible for the full audit process including planning, implementation and monitoring of corrective action plans. S/he will plan, lead and conduct audit and review fieldwork. The Auditor will review, investigate and report on Whistle Blower allegations. S/he will draft audit reports with recommendations to the Audit committee of the Board of Directors, and will monitor and follow upon corrective action plans.
S/he will support Regional and National offices by reviewing National Office and project audit reports, as well as providing support and advice to Regional and National Assurance Officers.
The Auditor will support management by evaluating management systems and practices and providing recommendations for improvements to controls, policies, procedures and processes. S/he will work with the Director of Assurance to provide input to the annual risk assessment and audit plan.

Bachelor degree required, Master’s degree preferred in accounting, finance, economics, or business management
Achievement of one or more of the following professional certifications and licenses is required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor, or Certified information Systems Auditor
Ability to independently define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and present concise oral and written reports
Working knowledge of the Standards for the Professional Practices of Internal Auditing of the Institute of Internal Auditors
Ability to work with mathematical concepts as they relate to auditing and fiscal analysis
Technical expertise in evaluating systems and processes, identifying weaknesses and areas of improvements
Highly accurate, detail-orientated, and able to complete multiple projects, with conflicting priorities, on a timely basis
Proven track record of producing high quality effective written communication e.g. reports, and policies, in English
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and relationship building
Strong result-orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (40%) to developing countries, to include visits to remote project locations
A strong cultural awareness and be able to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
Demonstrate standards of ethics and integrity
Minimum of 5 years of related experience in audit
Prior experience with, not-for-profit, or A-133 (US Government) Grants audits preferred
Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Bilingual preferred (English with French (preferred), Spanish, and/or Portuguese)
