· Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or in a similar business related field (or appropriate transferrable experience), Masters degree preferred.

· Two to three years of accounting or auditing experience (or appropriate transferrable experience) preferred.

· Prior banking experience with exposure to Operations or Information Technology functions are a plus.

· Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel or other similar software packages.

· Must be willing to work towards a professional certification.

· Understanding of internal auditing standards, procedures, and techniques.

· Familiarity with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and various state and federal banking regulations.

· Understanding of the business line assigned and the work performed by that area (i.e., underwriting standards, GAAP, FFIEC, etc.)

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work effectively with others.

· High level of professionalism, commitment, integrity, and objectivity.

Job Description:
Overview:

Under the supervision of the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor, assist in providing objective assurance on the effectiveness of an organization's ERM activities to help ensure key business risks are being managed appropriately and that the system of internal control is operating effectively based on completion of assigned test work.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in completing the Audit Plan as directed by the by the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor.

· Obtain necessary background information on assigned audit areas through review of materials including, but not limited to operating procedural manuals, policies, pertinent regulations, prior year workpapers and reports, examiner reports, and discussions with department personnel.

· Work with Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor to develop and revise key control worksheets, internal control questionnaires, and audit programs for assigned audit areas incorporating risk assessment results and changes that pertain to new services, regulatory requirements, and modifications of auditing techniques.

· Under the supervision of the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor review the reliability and integrity of financial and operating information and the means used to identify, measure, classify, and report such information.

· Under the supervision of the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor review the systems established to ensure compliance with those policies, plans, procedures, laws, regulations, and contracts that could have a significant impact on operations and reports, and determine whether the area under review is in compliance.

· Under the supervision of the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor review the means of safeguarding assets and, as appropriate, verify the existence of such assets.

· Under the supervision of the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor review operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals and whether the operations or programs are being carried out as planned.

· Collect, analyze, interpret, and document information to support audit results

. · Inform the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor of progress on audits and any assigned projects. Bring problems requiring action to their attention as soon as practical.

· Interact with management and staff of assigned audit areas throughout the audit process; such as assisting with preliminary interviews, presenting audit comments, and participating in audit exit conferences with the Senior Auditor or Audit Supervisor.

· Through continuous professional development, stay abreast of business trends and continually update knowledge to stay on top of key issues; especially developments relevant to the operations of the bank and its subsidiaries.

· Assist with special projects, and complete all other tasks assigned by management.

· Support the Bank’s process improvement initiatives.

· Promote and uphold the Bank’s Vision, Mission, and Statement of Values.

· Must adhere to pertinent laws, regulations, First Niagara’s Compliance Policy and external compliance requirements.
