Role Summary & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of Automotive Exterior Body components, primarily in seals and sheet metal. Understanding the technical aspects of automotive seals and rubber parts is esential to being successful in this position. This person will:

Be the liaison for R&D departments between Chattanooga,

Wolfsburg/Germany and Puebla/Mexico

Be an active member in problem solving activities of the cross functional

team (quality, purchasing, assembly, planning and Pilot Hall)

Be an active representative of

Research and Development (R&D) to ensure or improve the design performance

Support a safe launch of new product, model changes and facelifts as well as maintain current model

Be r

esponsible for product cost saving process to improve the financial base of the car

driven by idea your own ideas; follow up and track ideas for other departments until implementation

Adhere to c

ommitments for the team in terms of product cost savings needs to

be fulfilled

Support part localization to US market and optimize the cost structure of the vehicles built in Chattanooga

Execute active information policy of product engineering tasks towards R&D management in Wolfsburg and plant management in Chattanooga

Determine requested changes of part design as necessary, correct, useful, productive and profitable



Must have 5-10 years experience in automotive exterior and/or metal part development

Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering

Knowledge of automotive program management principles

Knowledge of exterior / body components (primarily seals and sheet metal)

Whole Body in White (BIW) including paint sealants, dampeners, corrosion protection

Seals for hood, doors and trunk lid

Under body application and heat shields

Bumper and front grill

Lighting system (Headlamps, tail lamps, interior lights)

Glass (windshield, rear glass, door)

Window lifter, outer mirror, handles for door/ hood/ trunk lid, latches including bowden cables

Exterior appliqués and covers - door side protection, hinge covers and for outer B-/C-pillar Sun roof including drain hoses


German language (written and verbal)

Catia design experience

Experience with the Volkswagen cooperation

Work Flexibility

Domestic and International travel as needed

Ability to promptly adjust work plans to address urgent tasks

Availability outside regular work time in urgent cases
