The function of the Business Excellence Program Manager is to support implementation of Lean Six Sigma programs in the supply chain/manufacturing sites including the following support organizations: finance, procurement, quality, information technology, and manufacturing science and technology. This job will entail managing internal teams of network change agents to complete detailed activity based financial analysis of operational locations, identifying opportunities to significantly reduce operating costs and leading the implementation effort to achieve these savings.

This role would also coach and mentor the local site business excellence managers to provide education, training and consultancy. This position would report to the Global Business Excellence Manager.

This position will:
Drive benchmarking/sharing best practice and support the development of a global knowledge management network

Provide support to enterprise wide initiatives to drive efficiencies and cut cost in Supply Chain Management including Demand Management, Sales and Operations Planning and Global Inventory Management

Be the focal point for continuous improvement expertise and trouble-shooting within all support functions

Support local Program Managers to develop high level and detailed project cost cutting plans

Establish/maintain network of key network change agents and to assist with execution of Lean diagnostics and implementation

Lead internal benchmarking to maintain consistency and raise standards

Provide regular communications with other Business Excellence Managers, and Division Business Excellence team

Lead education and training, in partnership with external consultants

Manage travel project budgets

Support site management in preparing site for business excellence assessments

Major Responsibilities:
This person would be responsible for developing and executing the following business processes :

  • Enterprise wide activity based business lean diagnostic
  • Comparison and gap assessment to quantitative market competitiveness

  • Deployment of a toolbox of world-class business improvement

  • Creation of a business excellence roadmap linked to site strategy dictating
which and how tools should be deployed at each site

Fully understand the concepts , tools and training techniques of Lean, Class A and Six Sigma philosophies

Fully understand Manufacturing and Supply Chain operations

Develop strong relationships with key managers in all sites

Fully understand all elements of the Business Excellence initiative

Influence/motivate senior management at sites to identify opportunities and apply Lean and Six Sigma philosophies

Support/motivate the local Program Managers to manage the total scope of the required changes necessary to bring their sites up to business excellence standards.

Support/motivate the local Program Managers to manage the budget and timetable for the implementation of lean programs

Establish Regional benchmarking teams from all locations to share best practice and ensure consistency

Provide regular communications of project status to departmental staff

Provide training and implementation planning support to all Manufacturing, Affiliate and Logistics Lean program participants

This position will also be required to negotiate with and influence senior management to gain buy in and support for Lean implementation plans across the entire supply chain.

This position will also be responsible for Division VP level communications on continuous improvement initiatives and opportunities.

Regular interface will be with Lean program steering committee members, Site Managers, Logistics Managers, IT Managers, Consultant(s), Core Team Members and Task Team Members.


Bachelors Degree Required: Preferred Disciplines: Administration, Business, Sciences, Engineering, Humanities, and Operations Mgt.

A self-starting, self-motivated, natural leader with highly developed interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills are/is vital to the position

Previous supervisory experience preferred

Practical knowledge and/or experience of implementing Lean/Six Sigma are mandatory

The Business Excellence Program Manager must have a proven track record in large project management

The individual must have proven experience in implementing or operating in a Class A environment

People skills are critical to the position. This person will have to show excellent leadership and motivational skills to indirectly manage hundreds of people who contribute to the regional continuous improvement implementation

A basic knowledge of ERP systems and business applications is vital•Strong analytical skills

Experience or knowledge in areas such as:
  • Managerial/Supervisory Experience
  • Planning/Materials Management
  • Manufacturing/Marketing
  • Project Management
Total combined years of experience required: 10 or more years

Accountability / Scope:
The Business Excellence Program Manager must possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to focus problem solving and conflict resolution, and be able to develop win/win relationship with other teams and organizations

Also important is the knowledge of what is required from support groups and make judgments as to what can reasonably be expected with in the time and resources available.

The ability to operate in a matrix management situation is also required

This person must deliver significant reductions in controllable costs as a result of leading Lean transformations at multiple locations through

  • Improved performance measurements for supported sites
  • Implementation of more efficient/leaner business processes
  • Reduced Logistics and Operational costs
  • Reduced Overhead costs
  • Reduced Direct Labor costs
  • Reduced Inventory Obsolescence
Directly responsible for ensuring consistency among Lean program implementation and processes

Directly responsible for establishing formal benchmarking processes.

Directly impacts the work procedures of personnel within a Region with subsequent effect on the Optimization of the Global Supply Chain

Responsible for the implementation of improved information flow throughout the entire supply chain from affiliate to source(s)

Responsible for supporting successful execution of Lean/Six Sigma initiatives at selected non-manufacturing locations

Significant Work Activities and Conditions

Continuous sitting for prolonged periods ( more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hour day), Keyboard use (greater or equal to 50% of the workday)
