Job Description:
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.

This Bioinformatics Associate Scientist position is within the laboratory of Dr. Sharon Diskin in the Center for Childhood Cancer Research (CCCR). The CCCR is a Center of Emphasis at the Research Institute and represents a highly integrated basic, translational and clinical research environment dedicated to eradicating the pain and suffering caused by cancer in children.

Our laboratory is focused on translational genomics of pediatric cancers, with an emphasis on neuroblastoma, a malignancy of the developing sympathetic nervous system. A primary goal is to understand the complex interplay between germline and tumor genetics and their effect on tumor initiation, progression and response to therapy. Research in the lab is inherently multi-disciplinary in that it couples integrative computational analyses of large scale data such as next generation sequencing, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping, mRNA and miRNA expression, epigenetic profiling, and DNA copy number data, with rigorous experimental validation.

The main responsibilities for this position are as follows:

• Genomic data analysis (primary responsibility). Develop and/or implement statistical, informatics and computational methodologies for genetic analysis. NGS data analysis and software development. SNP and expression array analysis. Primary and secondary analysis of genomic data, including biologically meaningful integration of diverse data types.

• Participate in collaborative projects between our lab and other laboratories in the CCCR and/or computational groups at CHOP and UPenn as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or Masters in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science or related field. The preferred candidates will also have 5-7 of research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Requirements:
- Value for research integrity and collaborative research
- High degree of understanding of genomics and computational biology
- Strong people skills and good communication skills
- Great organizational and time management skills
- Effective problem solving/critical thinking skills

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, and three references and/or letters of recommendation and must also complete a profile on our website at www.chop.edu/careers .
