Assists the tomato breeder in conducting a very large research program. This involves coordinating and balancing a number of activities at any one time. Work is done in the lab, greenhouse, and the field. Major responsibilities are; supervision of workers and ability to get along with our lab team, database handling of thousands of breeding lines, pollinating tomatoes, conducting disease screening with several pathogens, coordination of seed sowing, greenhouse transplanting, and field transplanting of thousands of genetic lines of tomatoes, and collecting and analyzing data for experiments. Job skills include familiarity with plant growing; computer expertise with spreadsheets, data analysis ( SAS primarily, knowledge of genetic software is desirable), and powerpoint; and chemistry. Some background in plant breeding/genetics is desirable.
A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
