Moderately complex specialized and technical clerical work in the enforcement of the County’s Zoning, Building and Licensing regulations. An employee assigned to this position performs moderately complex work requiring continuous public contact in the processing and examination of applications for permits and dissemination of building information to the general public. Work involves the operation of a computer and is performed under the supervision of the Building Official.

Processes and assists in the completion of applications for permits and provides technical information such as location of legal description, using scale rule for metes and bounds; Interprets zoning codes for minimum set backs, reviews plot plan for current set backs in accordance with zoning requirements; Advises and verifies collection of impact fees for designated Fire Districts; Calculates and collects proper road impact fees and assigns correct zone for money to be allocated when appropriate; Reviews maps for proper inspection area, checks flood maps and determines if in a flood zone; Verifies land use, type, density and minimum lot size for conformance to Land Development Code; Issues and/or verifies existing addresses for permits; Reviews contractor applications for current license and insurance coverage; Reviews plans for proper stamps and documentation; Calculates permit and plan reviewfees and ensures plans are reviewed by appropriate plans examiner; Reviews blueprints or drawings for minimum plan review criteria; Verifies documentation for Florida Product Approval codes; Processes faxed permit applications; Processes revisions to active permits; Renews inactive permits and processes documents for refunds; Accepts and receipts monetary transactions; Interprets policies and procedures for adherence to and application of the Development Service Center Customer Service Standards as well as other program guidelines as established at the time of employment or modified thereafter; Performs data entry functions; Assists public by explaining laws, procedures and other related information in person and via phone; Provides information to Development Services customers and the general public regarding the development approval processes and procedures; Processes and assists in the completion of applications for permits and provides technical information such as location of legal description, using scale rule for metes and bounds; Performs related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Two (2) years experience as a Building Permit Technician I; OR, three (3) years experience in clerical or secretarial duties, including operation of a PC or similar data entry equipment with Microsoft Word and working with the public; type 30wpm.
