The Backend Engineer is responsible for the backbone of Tagged -- developing, deploying and supporting our messaging infrastructure. We believe in using the right tool for the job and not reinventing the wheel, and every technology must scale massively starting on day one, so ejabberd was an obvious choice for our chat system, combined with our existing Java infrastructure. Opportunities and challenges involve designing and building out services to work across our entire platform, scaling distributed systems, and integrating with other services. Design, architect and build out critical infrastructure.
Contribute to the open source community.
Analyze and tune existing distributed systems for performance enhancements.
Extend the functionality to an existing product.
Implement key components of Tagged’s platform.

Write technical design and product architecture specifications for new components.
Work closely with other teams and engineers to investigate and resolve issues.
Experience with Erlang or other functional programming languages.
Deployed large-scale distributed systems in production.
An intimate understanding of Java.
5+ years of professional software development experience.
BS in Computer Science or related field.
