DESCRIPTION

This role is an important position within the hotel, restaurant and conference center. The Banquet servers are responsible for setting up the for the banquet event, this may include tables, chairs, linen, center pieces, table settings, etc. Banquet Servers are also serve the food and beverage to the tables at the event as well as clear away the food and beverage after each course of the meal. Banquet serving is a physical position requiring individuals to carry and balance large, heavy trays as well as being able to bend and kneel with these trays for serving. Banquet Servers are often the only point of contact for guests of weddings and meetings that may or may not be staying at the hotel. Therefore, this is an extremely important role in ensuring the guests of the event have their expectations met or exceeded. Repeat business and word of mouth from these event guests is an extremely important aspect in ensuring the overall success of the hotel. It is common for a majority of the compensation for this role to be based on gratuity.

DUTIES

Service oriented personality able to speak clearly and communicate with ability to listen to and understand information through spoken words and sentences. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests' service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation.Must be able to carry a tray with multiple dinners, set tables, chairs and rearrange furniture.Dependably come to scheduled work shift in a positive state of mind meeting dress and grooming standards for a professional appearance. Prepare coffee breaks, carts, and stations with appropriate food and beverages as stated in Banquet Event Order. Set and decorate buffets per direction provided.Communicate additional meal requirements, allergies, dietary needs, and special requests to the kitchen.Serve individual plates of food and/or beverages to guests in a professional manner. Securely transport food from main kitchen to specific banquet area either on trays or in warming containers. Assist bussing staff in removing dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning. Replenish buffet items to ensure consistency and freshness in presentation. Monitor tableware to ensure it is presentable to guests. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of assigned station and service areas.Check with guests to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems. Safety, Health and Loss Control Be familiar with the Employee Handbook and Safety Policies. Maintain a clean and sanitary work area to prevent food borne illness.Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager; and complete safety training and certifications. Other Duties/Responsibilities Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges while being careful about detail and thoroughness in work tasks. Present honest work ethic. Assist peers when needed or requested. Flexible to changes. Psychological Considerations Difficult situations may present a challenge in keeping emotions in check, controlling anger and avoiding aggressive behavior. Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma (or equivalent)1-2 years of serving experience preferredSuperior customer service skillsProfessional, warm demeanor - service oriented attitudeDemonstrated ability to multi-task and work well under pressureMust be able to follow directions and perform responsibilities as described. Good communication, problem-solving and organizational skills and ability to follow directions using good safety awareness and sound judgment. Many banquets and special events are held on holidays and weekends, so candidates who will be considered must have flexible availability. Ability to stand for long periods of time - bend, kneel, lift and pull continuously throughout a shift, lift up to 50lbs.Must possess the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position delivering or bussing food selections. Must be able to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without fatiguing. Hours: Hours vary between days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
