Posted: 1 week ago 2013-11-15 Available: ASAP Closes: 11/25/13 Districtwide (GV) Juneau School District Position Details Location: Districtwide/Student Services (Glacier Valley Elementary School) Part-Time Position (.9333 FTE) Position Summary: Works primarily with students who are in special education. Presents material and activities to improve skills in assigned areas, which may include reading, writing, math, computers and/or vocational education. Records grades and other measures of students' progress and behavior. Under certificated staff direction, implements Individualized Education Plans, modifies and implements material for individual or small group needs.

Serves as a team member in planning learning objectives and delivery methods, reviewing student progress and modifying learning methods. Observes and monitors student behavior, intervenes to maintain the learning environment and safety of all students. Assist students in building coping skills, develop mechanisms for positive self-care and stabilizing a student in acute distress. Assist and re-direct students in order to engage in age-appropriate social behavior.

Assists students with mobility, feeding, toileting, dressing and washing. Cleans and sanitizes classroom equipment and furniture. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma. Some prior experience working with school age children preferred.

CPR, first aid and district approved behavior management techniques may be required. Valid Alaska drivers license required. Knowledge of: Files and record keeping. Personal computers and related software.

School age children's behavior. Behavior modification. Ability to: Maintain confidentiality. Provide instructional assistance in assigned areas.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a personal computer and related software. Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents. Compensation: This is a part-time 9-month position, working 35 hours per week, with a starting salary of $17.92 per hour plus a $1.50 per hour differential.
