General Summary of Duties :

Responsible for providing courteous and competent services to ensure guests are roomed in the hotel efficiently and without incident; transporting luggage and other items; and escorting guests to and from their assigned rooms.

Typical Physical/Mental Demands :

Requires mobility. Ability to stretch, bend, reach, and withstand prolonged standing or walking. Horizontally and vertically move and transport baggage, boxes, and other itemsup to one hundred (100) pounds on a frequent basis from floor level up to and including six (6) feet above floor. Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish letters, symbols, and colors. Normal vision and hearing range.

Typical Working Conditions :

Cover large distances across property. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, being exposed to environmental factors such as seasonal heat, cold, noise, dust, and pollution. Ability to tolerate varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination, and air quality.

Examples of Duties (includes but is not limited to the following) :

1. Transport luggage and escort guests to and from their assigned rooms and other areas of the hotel.
2. Run errands (i.e., newspapers, faxes, laundry, packages, flowers, etc.) and communicate messages when necessary.
3. Store and retrieve guest luggage.
4. Anticipate guest needs and resolve guest problems within scope of authority, otherwise referring guest to Bell Captain.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Performance Requirements (knowledge, skills and abilities) :

Ability to read, write, and understand English. Ability to perform basic math skills. Ability to operate office equipment (i.e., computer and telephone). Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and guests. Knowledge, understanding, and compliance of policies and procedures, job descriptions, daily memorandums, chemical labels, and other instructions.

Education :

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience :

One year experience as a Bell Person at a major hotel preferred.
