JOB INFORMATION

Manage a team engaged in planning, designing, communicating, and administering a variety of legally mandated, legally regulated, or voluntary employee benefits programs. Hire, manage, train, develop, and evaluate staff. Document or revise plan documentation. Complete legally required reporting. Respond to employee questions regarding enrollment, claims, and interpretations of program design features. Prepare utilization reports or analyses for management or for regulatory agencies. Participate in or lead special projects.

KEY JOB FUNCTIONS

Plan and assign work in the unit, including assigning lead responsibility for tracking and analyzing utilization of specific benefits offered by the organization.

Plan and assign the communication of benefits to employees via on-line, print, orientation and open enrollment, and individually. Review messaging to ensure compliance, uniformity, and consistency with corporate standards and benefits objectives.

Assign lead roles for communicating with vendor(s) of underwritten benefits regarding employee enrollment and utilization data. Review utilization data for reporting purposes or to prepare for meetings with vendors.

Meet with vendors and plan negotiations for plan design changes, pricing, documentation, and the like.

Track legislation affecting specified benefits and assess effects on how benefits should be communicated or administered. Review findings with management or with vendors who provide benefits.

Participate or assign staff to participate in projects to develop or enhance applications used in administering benefits or facilitating employee enrollment or inquiry. Define business requirements or document flow of benefits utilization process(es).

Ensure that legally-mandated reports such as Summary Plan Descriptions are prepared and filed accurately and timely.
EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

6 years of related experience
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Five or more years of demonstrated, progressive experience in Benefits administration

Experience building and managing a team of benefits professionals

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of constituencies

Ability to effectively communicate complex information/analyses both verbally and in writing

Experience managing vendor relationships including performance and cost oversight
