The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Benefits and Recruitment Representative for Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf and Governor Morehead School for the Blind . The individual in this position will be the primary contact for all questions related to employee benefits. Benefit programs include all leave, retirement, disability, medical, dental, NCFLEX, work/life balance and DPI supplemental insurance programs. Other responsibilities include processing personnel actions in SAP, criminal background checks, drug testing, fingerprinting procedures, and monitoring/tracking new employee’s probationary periods. This position will also serve as the contact for the recruitment of all non-management classifications (Residential Life, Educational Development Assistants, Food Services, Housekeeping, and Clerical). This is a 12-month, 1st shift (Monday - Friday) position primarily located at Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf located in Wilson, NC. This position will require occasional travel and is subject to a criminal background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in a Human Resources Office setting to include knowledge of a variety of personnel procedures and services; Knowledge of NC State government policies (GS126 & 115c) is helpful. Knowledge of BEACON and NEOGOV is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel required. The candidate must have the ability to interact positively and effectively with a variety of individuals within and external to the organization and to respond in a prompt, courteous and professional manner to customer’s needs and inquiries. Accuracy and attention to detail is required as well as the ability to provide accurate information to customers. This work involves a high volume of assignments and the ability to meet deadlines, and to function as a team member in accomplishing the work needs is essential.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A competitive candidate will be proficient with BEACON and have experience in administering Family Medical Leave and Family Illness Leave, Voluntary Shared Leave, the NCFlex Benefit Program, the State Health Plan, State Retirement transactions, and Short and Long Term Disability.
