Under general supervision, responds to customer inquiries, requests or complaints concerning account status, billing procedures and payment schedules by telephone or written communication. Provides general information to insureds and agents regarding the status of specific insurance policies. Investigates problems or irregularities and resolves issues with customers. Works within Company guidelines to ensure that customers receive accurate, timely and dependable assistance.
Worker characteristics are normally acquired through completion of a general high school education, technical or business courses and a minimum of 1 year department or customer service experience.
Understanding of basic billing procedures, policy coverage and cancellation, and computer system layout to provide accurate information.
Good telephone protocol and the ability to maintain tact and professionalism in dealing with people.
Mathematical aptitude to calculate payments due, interest and administrative fees.
Good verbal communication skills.
Requires occasional exercise of initiative and independent judgment with respect to accepting payments and waiving fees within level of authority when standard procedures do not apply.
