BioPhase Solutions specializes in recruiting top talented professionals for San Diego's Scientific community. We are currently looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to work for a leading San Diego biotechnology company.
A clinical genetic testing company seeks a bioinformatics scientist for data analysis, algorithm development and software implementation. This motivated individual will work closely with the science and engineering staff to analyze large amounts of clinical data derived from Next Generation Sequencing and microarray-based assays and develop algorithms and procedures related to data management and clinical laboratory products.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
PhD or commensurate experience in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology or closely related fields.
Team player with 2+ years of experience in managing and analyzing large volumes of genomic sequence, genotyping data or gene expression data. Experience in Next Generation Sequencing analysis and commercial products strongly preferred.
Experience in designing and implementing software for automated data management and sequence analysis pipelines is strong plus.
Excellent knowledge and skills in Linux / Unix development environment, including experience using a revision/source control system such as SVN, CVS or Git.
Strong programming skills in a compiled programming language such as C/C++ and knowledge of one or more scripting languages such as Python, Perl, PHP, Lua or Shell.
Strong skills in relational database development; experience in PostgreSQL is desired.
Strong skills in statistical analysis, data mining and literature mining are highly desired. Experience in R and high-dimensionality data visualization would be highly beneficial.
Strong breadth of knowledge in genomics, human genetics and biology.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Work with engineers and scientists to develop technical specifications and implementation plans in concert with product development staff, R&D scientists and clinical laboratory staff, then develop and deliver those bioinformatics components.
Develop data management, analysis and algorithms. Design, implement, document, test, and maintain production-level software for the clinical analysis pipeline.
Provide bioinformatics support for R&D activities and new product development.
Participate in diverse research and development projects, complete projects in a timely manner, comply with documentation and quality policies and procedures.
Participate in and/or lead projects requiring collaborations with personnel within and outside of science and engineering staff.
Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols and analyses. Report and present study data in department and project meetings.
