We’re a smart, growing team tackling big problems. Natera’s mission is to give couples the best chance of having a healthy child and we need your help to bring the latest technology in genetics together with advanced signal processing and statistics.
Our bioinformatics team works closely with our Biology R&D team and our Statistics team to develop new molecular diagnostic tests. The ideal candidate for this position is a strong software engineer with significant experience analyzing high-throughput sequencing data. You should be comfortable working with very large datasets, developing software for computational clusters, and analyzing noisy biological data. The ability to collaborate with experts in other disciplines, including biologists, mathematicians and engineers, is essential.
Your initial responsibilities will include:
Analyze high-throughput DNA sequence data and work with our team of scientists and statisticians to answer specific biological questions
Develop tools and automated analysis pipelines for diagnostic tests, including variant-detection tools and quality-control checks
Design primers for multiplexed PCR assays
BS in Computer Science or equivalent, with 2-3 years experience in Bioinformatics
Experience programming in Java and/or C++
Experience programming in one or more scripting languages: Groovy, Ruby, Perl or Python
Experience using Linux command-line tools and writing shell scripts
Experience analyzing high-throughput DNA sequence data, including short-read alignment (e.g. using Novoalign, BWA or Bowtie) and visualization with a genome browser, is a big plus
Experience developing computational pipelines in a distributed computing environment with a cluster job manager (PBS/Torque preferred) is a plus
Experience with relational databases (MySQL preferred) is a plus
Self-motivated and detail-oriented
The mission of Natera is to help doctors give couples the best chance of having a healthy child. Our company was formed in 2004 by a team of doctors, geneticists, statisticians, and software engineers who embarked on developing a technology called Parental Support™, to enable highly reliable testing of multiple genes and chromosome copy number from minute amounts of DNA. Natera has helped thousands of families with its one-of-a-kind testing.
Natera is funded by the National Institutes of Health, and top Silicon Valley VC firms including Sequoia Capital, Claremont Creek Ventures, and Lightspeed Ventures.
Natera is driven by a passion for elevating the science and utility of prenatal testing. The advent of the Information Age has created a...
