DUTIES: Back to top As a Biologist you will:
  • Perform biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Perform experiments in accordance with approved and validated analytical methods and procedures.
  • Assist in the day to day management of the laboratory.
  • Compose written communications to prepare responses for inquiries, reports, proposals, etc.
  • Provide program consultation and respond to inquiries.

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Additional Qualifications:

In addition to meeting the Basic Qualification Requirements, candidates must also: Have at least 1 year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience is that which is directly related to the position and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position, to include experience in performing biological scientific work in various scientific and public health areas associated with agents in biological matrices.

Substitution of Education For Experience:

Requirements at the GS-11 level may be met by 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Foreign Education : Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Skill in performing and interpreting a variety of specialized chemical tests, data and samples.

3. Skill in operating complex, sophisticated analytical instruments and equipment.

4. Ability to communicate in writing.

5. Ability to communicate orally.
