This is a Term position located with the Pacific Southwest Research Station in Chester, CA.
This position is responsible for performing professional work in the field of biology, participating as a member of a research team working to evaluate short- and long-term effects of forest management activities on biological, chemical, and physical processes that affect ecosystems.

Participates in the planning and execution of complex studies and investigations concerning biological, chemical, and physical processes that affect ecosystems. Conducts routine field experiments to test scientific hypotheses. Deploys complex remote data-collection systems and manipulates and analyzes data from these systems to develop environmental reports. Plans, organizes, and implements limited biological investigations on forest stand development and the interaction of environmental variables based on climatic data and ecophysiological measurements QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for all positions at the GS-5 grade level and above. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education.
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Examples of specialized experience are typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
GS-9: 2 years of progressively higher level related graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, if related; or one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; or an appropriate combination of specialized experience and related graduate education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level).
Specialized experience is defined as experience planning, organizing, and implementing forest vegetation studies and preparing plant, soil, water, timber, and range environmental analysis reports. Developing and maintaining statistical databases including developing and utilizing statistical R code language to analyze forest vegetation data. Developing work plans that included time and cost estimates, and the materials, supplies, and equipment needed to accomplish a forest vegetation research study.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, applicants must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Applicants who meet the basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position will be placed in the Eligible category. Eligible applicants will be further evaluated against criteria for placement in the Quality category. This evaluation is based on the level of your experience, education, and/or training as determined by your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire.
