PRIMARY FUNCTION
  • To plan direct and be responsible for operation of a satellite office for Geotechnical and Construction Services Division
  • To supervise the activities of the office including staff field and laboratory services
  • Will also be required to perform field and laboratory work project management reporting invoicing and business development
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Leadership/supervision of laboratory and field staff
Project Management
  • Prepare project specific proposals
  • Manage projects from initial authorization to completion
  • Oversee and maintain client project team and in-house communication
  • Coordinate engineers and technicians in performance of field work
  • Oversee quality control throughout project
  • Maintain orderly project file and job status reports
  • Prepare timely invoices and maintain acceptable work-in-progress
  • Pursue aged accounts and maintain acceptable A/R levels
Field Work
  • Perform special inspection services observations and judgments of geotechnical activities and materials testing services on an as-needed basis
  • Provide training of less experienced personnel in routine field work special inspections documentation and report preparation
  • Coordinate engineering staff and technicians to perform field tests
Laboratory Work
  • Determine lab tests needed for projects
  • Perform lab tests as needed
  • Direct the performance of lab testing for completion on a timely basis
Reporting
  • Review of field reports
  • Prepare formal reports of soil materials and special inspection services
  • Prepare site visit reports for job file after every project site visit
  • Prepare information sheets for project technicians
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures
  • Drafting
  • Prepare other project-related memos and necessary documentation
Marketing
  • Maintain existing clients and business relationships
  • Develop and maintain new clients and business relationships
  • Pursue assigned marketing leads
  • Aid in company marketing functions
  • Become involved in engineering testing or other societies and functions
Administrative
  • Be responsible for day to day operation of satellite office with emphasis on recruiting and providing trained personnel to perform quality services and operating at a profitable level
  • Scheduling of engineers and technicians to complete day to day field and laboratory work load
  • Monitoring the quality of services provided and satisfaction of clientele including making adjustments as necessary to ensure work is done to established company procedures and goals
  • Managing staff levels including hiring and dismissal of personnel as needed
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures
  • Perform strategic planning to ensure growth of office including developing annual budgets business plans and marketing plans
  • Provide technical leadership for office
  • Perform professional duties including communication with clients and other AET offices preparation of proposals coordinating and performing field and laboratory testing and preparing project testing proposals
  • Promote AETs services for purposes of acquiring work and securing the growth of the office and division
Miscellaneous
  • Perform other job duties not listed as required to meet division and company needs
  • Aid Division Manager in developing and implementing in-house training and quality programs
  • Maintain current working knowledge of applicable regulations policies procedures and technologies in designated fields
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to occasionally lift 50-100 pounds
  • Ability to perform necessary field work throughout the working day
  • Exhibit knowledge of applicable regulations specifications codes and engineering work practices and procedures
  • Ability to develop and implement solutions to a wide range of problems
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills and personnel management skills
  • Review and decide acceptability/risk of prospective projects and clients
  • Awareness and attention to safety
  • Personal vehicle available for company business
  • Regional travel likely
  • A clear driving record while employed
SUPERVISION/DIRECTION OF OTHERS
Directly supervise engineering and technical personnel within the geographic area
DECISION MAKING
  • Decides the work scope of projects
  • Decides the content of proposals
  • Decides the content of reports
  • Provides final review of engineering reports
  • Plans/schedules work assignments for subordinate staff
  • Plans and recruits staff hires
CHALLENGE
  • To maintain the quality of service and work product
  • To market the services in a manner that is profitable to the company
  • To coordinate with other departments by clearly outlining needs of client with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency productivity and communication
  • To conduct all activities in a safe efficient manner
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education – BS degree in Civil Engineering Construction Management Geology or other acceptable Engineering curriculum is preferred AND
  • A minimum of 7 years applicable engineering geotechnical construction testing and/or special inspection experience
  • 5 years supervisory experience of 5 employees with progressive increases in responsibility
  • Professional registration (PE) is preferred
