The Educational Alliance, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit located in downtown Manhattan, seeks an experienced Bookkeeper to assume responsibility for maintaining a complete set of records of all financial transactions for the Day Care Services.

The Bookkeeper will make financial income and expense entries and balance books for the preparation of reports of the center activities; collect fees, compile and deliver bank deposits weekly; post and summarize fee cards and report weekly to Center Director on fees in arrears; maintain general ledger and cash receipts book and monitor petty cash account; prepare, maintain and reconcile the program’s effort reporting system with the Agency’s system.

The Bookkeeper also will prepare monthly attendance records, absence and late fee notices; assist in annual preparation of CACFP application and all grant applications; act as a receptionist for the center, answer telephone, take messages, sort and distribute mail, take minutes of center meetings, and perform routine data entry, including electronic timekeeping for other center staff.

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred, vocational training in bookkeeping and one year experience as a full-charge bookkeeper or assistant bookkeeper required. Bilingual English/Cantonese or English/Mandarin preferred. Analytical ability, strong computer skills, knowledge of PC-based accounting/bookkeeping systems and ability to learn new software are essential. Ability to multitask and handle challenging situations in a professional, courteous and friendly manner. Ability to pass background check and an annual physical examination required.
