Responsible for the protection of the Blue Brands by maintaining BCBSA’s portfolio of trademark registrations and applications and the enforcement of the BCBSA’s trademark rights against infringement by third parties.
Required Basic Qualifications
•Law degree required.
•Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois is required.
•A working knowledge of U.S. and international trademark laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to trademark prosecution and enforcement which demonstrates experience in the management and growth of a trademark portfolio (comprised of approximately 1900 registrations and applications) is required.
•A minimum of 2 years experience in trademark prosecution and enforcement, including trademark litigation and docketing supervision experience is required.
•This knowledge should include trademark clearance, application filing and prosecution, registration maintenance, docket supervision and portfolio audit.
•Ability to correspond and negotiate with potential infringers and resolve disputes, or dispute-related USPTO filings (e.g. requests for extension of time to oppose, and instructing foreign associates regarding overseas conflicts) is required.
Preferred Basic Qualifications
•Demonstrated ability in the implementation of a trademark enforcement program.
•Demonstrated abilities in the analysis of watch service reports and review of Official Gazettes.
•Strong organizational and follow through skills.
•Strong written and oral communication skills including negotiation skills.
•Knowledge of trademark docketing systems and procedures is preferred.
•Knowledge of trademark and business research resources and Internet searching is preferred.
