This position will cover Paola, KS. Candidates need to live or be willing to relocate to the Paola area.

Under minimal supervision is responsible for monitoring and supporting the overall performance of out-lying district systems, evaluating and recommending proposed improvements, and assisting in the correction of related problems.

ILLUSTRATIVE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values
• Provides training, support, and coordination of the operation of the system headend to include microwave, HFC architecture
• Assures quality installation and maintenance of headend equipment and associated systems
• Assures overall performance of the distribution plant relative to established standards
• Assesses and reports performance characteristics of the plant by regularly scheduling testing according to Company and FCC procedures
• Conducts evaluation, cost analysis, selection, engineering and network design of digital telecommunications equipment including fiber optic cables and terminal, multiplexers, digital cross connects, channel banks, digital loop carrier, local area networks, digital switching systems and related peripherals
• Analyzes all practical solutions to network technical and network-related business problems
• Supports development of capital budgets for broadband services to assure identified network capacity problems are addressed by budgeted capital
• Monitors budget capitals and application of technical solutions to assure technical and business goals are met
• Coordinates with planning personnel responsible for other serves to assure optimum utilization of shared network resources
• Provides input regarding the evaluation, selection and procurement of fiber optic transmission and other network equipment
• Provides on-going technical support and training for employees on telecommunications equipment
• Provides guidance in resolving technical problems, implementation and follow through of preventative maintenance programs
• Assists in the establishment of and adherence to network performance measurements and goals
• Supports fulfillment of FCC-required network tests
• Provides project supervision as needed
• Mentors and assists others
• Maintains and secures Company truck and equipment
• Uses small hand tools, power tools, meters, and other test equipment
• Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and beyond regular work hours as required
• Performs other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Ability to communicate in person and by telephone
• Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus; ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
• Hand and finger dexterity to carry and to use tools and equipment as necessary
• Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 75 pounds)
• Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed
• Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics by crawling, bending, reaching, twisting
• Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
• Ability to drive Company vehicle in a safe and responsible manner

Position Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or equivalent preferred
• NCTI and/or SCTE courses preferred
• Knowledge of advanced mathematics and electronics
• Skill in using a Windows-based computer
• Proficient using spreadsheets, word-processing, and CAD programs
• Ability to comprehend and operate appropriate testing equipment (analyzer, sweep meter, OTDR, fusion splicer) to fulfill job requirements
• Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
• Ability to work independently and with others
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to mentor and assist others
• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications, analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to comply with all Company safety procedures
• Appropriate valid driver’s license and driving record within Company standards
• Bi-lingual proficiency preferred in some locations

WORK EXPERIENCE
• Broadband Engineer or Technical Supervisor or equivalent experience required

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat
• Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions
• Work performed near power lines and electricity
• Work, including travel, outdoors in adverse weather conditions day or night
