FINANCE INTERN PROGRAM @ BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), www.bnl.gov, has 10-week summer internships available for qualified students enrolled in their junior or senior year (current sophomores and juniors) of an accredited program in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration with strong computer skills and a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Ability to effectively work on a team and with others in various leadership positions, strong interpersonal, problem resolution, analytical and modeling skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required; intermediate to advanced Excel and/or experience with Access including macros, VBA and work with formulas such as SUMPRODUCT, is strongly preferred.
The possibility of assignments throughout the school year will be considered based on performance and availability of work.
Students, and their mentors, will travel to Battelle Memorial Institute located in Columbus, Ohio, to present the results of their projects.
Potential internship assignments:
Intern will support the execution of the Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB) requirements in the revision to Appendix A of Circular A-123 to strengthen our internal controls in the systems and processes that impact the financial reporting of BNL. This is the government version of the Sarbanes–Oxley Act. Key activities to be performed are: assisting in identifying and verifying business process risks, performing control assessments and reviewing and documenting results of assessments and reviews. Student could also be placed in BNL’s Internal Audit and Oversight Group to assist in audits and conduct statistical samples.
Financial Analysis: The ideal candidate will have the ability to successfully review, analyze, and evaluate business systems, workflows, prepare financial reports and other financial documents to aid management in their decision making process. The intern will typically complete a project consisting of one or more of the following: cost analysis, valuation, reporting, forecasting, financial modeling, reconciliation, and other related procedures. Intern will communicate with management and staff to resolve problems to improve processes or systems; as well as prepare reports, ad hoc and cost/benefit information analysis, and other duties as assigned.
Rate of pay: Completion of 2 years of college: $11.70/hour/Completion of 3 years of college: $13.20/hour
