Pay range is $14.33 to $21.18 with the discretionary hire max at $17.19. The position will work at our St. Louis County Justice Center Clayton, MO working 2nd shift 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. working alternating weekends and holidays.

Positions in this job classification perform mechanical and maintenance work on a journeyman level in an assigned area of specialization. Work requires the ability to perform work under limited supervision in the assigned specialized skill and the ability to work in support of other trade disciplines.

Examples of Duties:

Provides maintenance support and repair for County owned buildings and facilities in a safe and efficient manner.

Performs electrical maintenance, repair or install work on electrical systems and equipment by: inspecting, repairing and troubleshooting equipment; reading and drawing wiring schematics, blueprints, diagrams and plans; and working with live, high voltage circuitry.

Performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair or installation work of Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems and equipment by: installing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment and related controls.

Performs maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair or installation work on plumbing systems and equipment by: reading plumbing blueprints, plans and diagrams; repairing and maintaining plumbing systems and fixtures.

Performs repair and maintenance tasks associated with welding and sheet metal fabrication.

Monitors and obtains supplies and equipment to ensure the availability of inventory for a designated work area.

Performs management and administrative tasks associated with the supervision of projects, individuals or work groups assigned to a designated crew or work group.

Perform such additional duties, with the required abilities and under the indicated working conditions and environment, as may properly be required of a position in this job class including asbestos material remediation/abatement and hazardous material/waste handling.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from Technical School or completion of a formal apprenticeship in a skilled building systems trade, plus three years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Possession of a Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification Type I, II, or III is required within 30 days of employment.

EQUIPMENT USED: (Illustrative examples) acetylene torch; automobile, van, light truck(up to 2 ½ tons); come along; cutoff saws; diamond drills; discs; drill press; drills; electric arc welder; grinder; hammer; hand saw; HVAC tools (i.e., refrigeration gauges, vacuum pump, leak detector, temperature sensing monitor); jackhammer; manlift; pipe cutter and threading machine; pneumatic equipment; power equipment; propane torch; soldering equipment; and thermo heat gun.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Balance, bend at waist, climb or work on scaffolding, ladders, stairs, crawl, exposure to dust/dirt, fumes, and hazardous materials, kneel, lift, push/pull, reach above shoulder level, squat, stand for long periods, stoop, walk for long periods; work from manlift; work in extreme temperatures (heat/cold), and work out of doors in inclement weather.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part time, full time; term or on-call position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be borne by the County.
