Alliant Energy is currently recruiting for a Business Analyst to work at our corporate office in Madison, WI.
In this challenging role you will be responsible for supporting the payroll, time and labor, and benefits areas within our Human Resources (HR) department by enhancing our existing Oracle PeopleSoft ERP system (HRMS) and implementing new business systems. The ideal candidate will be able to perform moderately complex business systems analysis, define specifications, conduct testing, implement and maintain systems. Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft payroll/time and labor is preferred.

Builds and maintains ERP Oracle PeopleSoft business systems through a system development life cycle (SDLC).
Following general instructions from manager, team lead, or more experienced business analysts, ensures systems are operating as designed, evaluates requests for changes to the system, provides routine system maintenance, documents system processes and procedures, suggest system improvements, and makes daily decisions involving direct application of technical knowledge to system issues.
Typically works on moderately complex and smaller, less defined system projects to assess and refine user requirements and specifications, formulate solutions, develop test plans, conduct testing, and implement systems and system improvements.
Articulates customer and technology requirements into structured documents and communications with customers and IT specialists such that the requirements from the customer and from IT can clearly be understood by the other.
Assists business relationship employees in communicating business system initiatives and improvements.
Contributes to development of business cases for improving and/or developing systems.
Maintains relationships with other IT areas. May manage the relationship with outside vendors.
On occasion, may provide guidance to less experienced business analysts.
Establishes standard procedures to ensure business systems are executed at an acceptable level of quality. Develops and monitors the use of system controls (i.e., system uptime, batches, reports, queries), and supports end users in developing reports and/or database queries.
Handles simple to moderately complex inquiries regarding the technical aspects of business systems by providing assistance to and coordinating work with IT staff and other business units.
Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures to provide functional and end-user support including end-user assistance, system maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Assists in developing and rolling out system application training for technical, departmental and end users. May provide training to individuals on smaller, less complex systems.
Maintains system documentation that supports system initiatives through manuals, lesson plans and procedures. May provide guidance to less experienced business analysts to update the documentation. Documents procedures and maintains corporate compliance with mandated regulations by participating in and in some cases may own the development, review and update of appropriate policies, procedures, and standards (e.g., SOX compliance).

Education or experience equivalent to a four year degree from an accredited college or university, with emphasis in business administration, information systems, or related area preferred.
A minimum of three to five years technical and/or professional experience. Business analysis, requirements analysis, requirements management, program management, product management, software design, software development, software testing experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead a project team to the successful conclusion of simple technology initiatives preferred.
Demonstrated ability to use ERP Oracle PeopleSoft and other computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management) and ability to work with new technologies. Demonstrated ability with ERP Oracle PeopleSoft payroll/time and labor are preferred. Demonstrated ability with database query tools (i.e., SQL), automating testing tools (i.e., Winrunner, SQA), workflow diagramming, and reporting and retention tools (i.e., Vista, SAR, Crystal Reports, Infomaker) preferred.
