This position is part of the Actuarial Support Team in the Actuarial department, and reports to the Actuarial Modeling and Senior Product Manager.
The Actuarial Support Team is responsible for assisting pricing teams organized by state with reporting/analytic needs and create/provide experience monitoring reports for Chief Actuary and CFO.
This analyst position is charged with helping to meet the goals of the team by developing new SAS/SQL code, running & revising existing SAS programs, developing reports using Excel/Access and other corporate BI tools, helping develop business applications, extracting and integrating data from multiple sources, and identifying and assisting in resolving data/ conceptual issues.
This position requires the ability and willingness to use independent judgment learn new methodologies and improve business processes
Extracts and manipulates data for analytics used by the state pricing teams
Assists in identifying problems and gaps in data and analyses, ensuring accuracy, suggesting and implementing effective solutions
Assists in developing SAS programs, analytics, and reports
Documents processes, data, and caveats for business analysts
Creates timely reports for distribution and maintaining updated data elements for creating these reports
Produces tables and graphics for reports and presentations
Works on ad hoc requests, as assigned, including some that might require reviewing health care literature and external studies
Completing assigned projects and tasks on a timely basis.
Strong quantitative and financial background with a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, CIS, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
2 to 5 years of professional experience, some in managed care/ provider environment preferred
High level of proficiency in Excel and Access
Experience writing SAS and SQL
Experience in using analytical tools to query and manipulate large health care claims databases
Ability to extract, synthesize, format data/presentation materials from various sources
Proficiency in using Microsoft applications and the ability to acquire proficiency in other software and report generating systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
