HHMI is a major force in advancing biomedical research and science education in the U.S. and beyond. We have an opportunity for a Business Analyst to join HHMI’s IT department at our headquarters in Chevy Chase, MD.
As a Business Analyst you will serve as a liaison among stakeholders to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements or changes to business processes, policies, and information systems. You will understand business problems and opportunities and recommend solutions that will deliver expected business value. You will also be accountable for the quality of the results, timely delivery and the management of scope, schedule, and budget of day-to-day operations and small to medium-sized projects.
Principal Responsibilities:
Responsibilities to Applications Support and Operations
Handles daily calls or change requests.
Prepares and creates business case(s) outlining cost impacts and value drivers of proposed solutions.
Work with Business Unit/Developer to ensure requirements scope is fully defined, that exclusions from scope are identified, and that business and technical assumptions and constraints are documented.
Ensures the technical solution is in keeping with HHMI architecture standards. Works closely with the Program Management Office to ensure the approach and the technology applied is not a project.
Business Analyst Responsibilities
Works in close collaboration with functional analysts and application owners as the business/functional counterpart in solution identification and maintenance.
Evaluates and documents information gathered through workshops and surveys, interviews, business process descriptions and task analysis.
Effectively communicates with internal teams and business units to deliver functional requirements like GUI, screen, customization and interface designs.
Prepares and documents feasibility studies, estimates and business / functional requirements in partnership and collaboration with the business users.
Develops and translates improved business processes and business requirements into specific software requirements, functional specifications, and system design specifications for client engagements.
Works closely with software developers and other end users to ensure technical compatibility and user satisfaction.
Works with Application Support and Operations Team to ensure consistent use and implementation of processes.
Supports the Application Support and Operations Team on the prioritization of change requests.
Coordinates testing efforts to include: test planning, estimation, and scheduling; development of test scripts; test execution; and user acceptance testing.
Tests solutions for both technical and business compatibility.
Application Support and Operations Responsibilities
Manages day-to-day operational aspects of the requirement and scope.
Manages small to medium-sized projects as required, and all aspects of the requirement and scope.
Applies project management or Agile (ScrumMaster) principles, standards, and procedures to ensure the quality of the results, timely delivery and the management of scope, schedule and budget of projects.
Develops project plans, various project management and/or Agile (Scrum) documents, and level of effort estimates.
Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
Identifies resource needs and assigns individual responsibilities.
Performs risk and issue analysis, management, planning, and mitigation activities, tracking, and reporting.
Recommends process improvements and provide effective management of assigned resources.
Employs quality management principles and review to ensure the quality of the requirement deliverables and results before delivering to client.
Ensures requirement documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
Effectively communicates relevant requirement information to Business Application Support Team, business unit, stakeholders, and project team.
Manages Ticketing system for all change request, enhancements or modifications.
Produces metrics of tickets maintained on a monthly basis.
Holds regular status meetings with business unit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferably in business, systems or related technical field, with a minimum of 3 -6 years of work experience in business, systems or related technical field.
Must be technology savvy with a good understanding of IT application, infrastructure and operational processes.
Able to manage day to day issues and small to medium IT projects that include technical, business process, and training components.
Experience working in virtual teams across matrix organizations.
Experience working with Agile (Scrum) teams preferred.
