SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
As a key component of the Product Strategy and Investment Services department, US Product & Market Research (USPMR) is responsible for providing product, market and competitive insight to internal business areas across the firm. USPMR provides in-depth product research and analysis to enhance business development opportunities in the US retail and institutional distribution channels.

The group also provides market intelligence to support product development/rationalization efforts and strategic product line initiatives.

Furthermore, USPMR supports product positioning efforts through careful analysis of the competitive marketplace. USPMR works with a wide array of internal clients including the IVZ Board, Legal/Compliance, Sales, Marketing, and the various investment teams.

The Business Analyst for the US Product & Market Research unit will participate in a variety of investment product- and market research-related projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities for the role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Integrate market research and competitive information to support the business and enhance reporting efforts
  • Support annual strategic planning exercises and 15c work for fund boards
  • Contribute to the development, production, and automation of select recurring reports
  • Represent USPMR on special projects involving various internal business partners
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Integrate market research and competitive information to support the business and enhance reporting efforts

  • Understands the scope, functionality, and availability of competitive research tools and market research reports
o Examples of competitor databases and tools include Lipper LANA, Morningstar Direct, Zephyr StyleADVISOR, Strategic Insight, and eVestment Alliance

o Market research examples include data purchased from or provided by third-parties such as Cerulli, FRC, Greenwich Associates, ICI, and investment consultants

  • Comprehends the needs of internal partners such as retail and institutional sales, product management, and product development with respect to market research and competitive intelligence
  • Analyzes quantitative information to identify significant trends and prioritize key takeaways
  • Participates in the production of internal reports such as the US retail quarterly business review and similar cross-functional summaries
  • Assists with fund merger proposals that may involve confidential or sensitive information
Support annual strategic planning exercises and 15c work for fund boards

  • Works closely with Product Development & Product Line Management team to provide market intelligence and crisp analysis for annual strategic planning exercises
  • Facilitates production and coordination of necessary materials to support the annual 15c review for the fund boards
  • Leverages competitive and market research resources to deliver comprehensive supporting materials
  • Executes quality control to ensure accurate and complete reporting
Contribute to the development, production, and automation of select recurring reports

  • Based on internal client needs, collaboratively develops reporting packages to maximize relevance and usage but minimize the amount of customization required
  • Looks for opportunities to standardize and systematize reporting across the group
  • Assists with the execution and presentation of Invesco’s global product assessment effort
  • Seeks user feedback regularly in order to further enhance report specs
Represent USPMR on special projects involving various internal business partners and complete various ad-hoc requests

  • Plays a supporting role in larger, more complex projects and may have a leading role in smaller, less complex projects
  • Provides input and perspective on product and market research availability as it pertains to specific initiatives
  • Fulfill random product and market inquiries submitted to group mailbox
Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Work Experience

  • Approximately three to five years of experience in the financial services industry is necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position
Education/Training

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree – preferably in Mathematics, Finance, Economics, Marketing or a related field – is required
License/Registration/Certification

  • If candidate does not already have a NASD Series 6 or Series 7 license, Series 6 must be obtained within the first 120 days of employment or the employee may be released from service
Skills

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals within the company and the investment industry is required
  • Must possess keen analytical skills which are required for reviewing market information, interpreting results, and identifying the most relevant details
  • Effective communication – both verbal as well as written – is a necessity
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the rules and regulations surrounding the securities industry
  • Must show the ability to meet deadlines, establish priorities and concentrate on detailed information sometimes under stressful conditions for up to 95% of the work time
  • Previous experience in working with various marketing research databases and software systems is strongly preferred
  • The ability to cooperate in a team environment is important, but the candidate must also be capable of working independently
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills are necessary
