Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the education market, is seeking a Business Analyst to work in its Business Analysis and Reporting Department within the Retail Retirement Line of Business. This position will be based in Topeka, Kansas. General Accountabilities:
The position is responsible for supporting the reporting/information management function. Responsibilities include: responding to ad hoc reporting requests; developing and automating periodic reports; conducting business need identification; documenting requirements; creating data dictionaries and process maps; proposing recommended solutions; developing databases and processes utilizing data from a variety of data sources; identifying and resolving data issues; and testing results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create ad hoc queries and periodic reports; Automate recurring reports;
  • Conduct business need identification and business requirement definition;
  • Document database structures and data relationships;
  • Create data dictionaries and diagram system/process flows;
  • Evaluate current environment relative to requirements;
  • Design and implement changes to data structure, relationships and process flows;
  • Provide expertise and guidance regarding appropriate interpretations of data;
  • Identify and resolve data issues;
  • Develop test plans and perform tests to validate results; and Support a variety of other information management projects of a highly varied nature including: data analysis, data mining and data optimization.

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Business, Mathematics or related degree requiring analytical thinking;
  • Five years in data analysis (required);
  • Must have existing SQL experience (T-SQL, PL-SQL)—(required)
  • Advanced experience using spreadsheets and database tools (Excel, Access, MS SQL Server, Oracle)-(required);
  • Understanding of report development, database development, data mining and analysis;
  • Prefer experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), or other reporting and business intelligence tools;
  • Experience with (SFDC) or other CRM applications;
  • Strong technical/analytical capability with excellent problem solving and decision making skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills along with presentation skills;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks of highly varied nature in a timely manner; and
  • Strong business acumen and existing knowledge of financial services industry;
