The BI Architect will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the BI infrastructure spanning a broad range of technologies and disciplines (ETL, database, data warehousing, data modeling, reporting, and web).

The BI Architect’s responsibilities will include defining and enforcing standards and best practices, providing guidance and thought-leadership to functional and technical teams, technology road-map planning, and performance optimization and monitoring.

  • Responsible for the overall design, implementation, and maintenance of all business intelligence infrastructure
  • Design, develop, test, and document the business intelligence infrastructure
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor, and execute performance tuning of data mart databases, SSAS OLAP cubes and Qlikview data models
  • Function as technical expert in design, development, testing, and maintenance of OLAP cubes and databases
  • Participate in the end-to-end design, development, and delivery of data marts within the data warehouse environment
  • Participate in requirements discovery and definition sessions with users and business analysts
  • Develop prototype cubes and work quickly with real data in iterative development cycles
  • Work with BI team to design and develop data mart schemas
  • Participate in design walk-thoughts to communicate designs to project team
  • Develop and document source to target mappings and detailed design of ETL processes
  • Develop ETL processes using Informatica and SSIS stored procedures, including robust messaging and error handling
  • Design and develop Analysis Services databases and cubes, optimized for handling large amounts of data efficiently through the use of various techniques including partitioning, aggregations, attribute hierarchies, and incremental loading
  • Design and develop SSIS packages for handling efficient cube builds and error processing
  • Conduct unit tests of ETL processes, cubes, and reports
  • Optimize data structures, cube structures, queries, and ETL that may not be performing well
  • Develop technical best practices and standards as needed for using tools in the BI suite
  • Develop and execute functional test plans of data mart loads and report/view objects
  • Follow established standards for design, development, and migration/deployment
  • Follow established standards for change management between dev, QA/UAT, and production environments and source code version control
  • Promote a strong combination of functional leadership and technical expertise across the team
  • Provide technical guidance to solution architecture, design, development, and testing
  • Pro-actively monitor and manage the data warehouse platform to ensure SLA adherence
  • Guide development team to optimally design, develop, and test new solutions and services
  • Define and enforce the technical architectural standards and guidelines
  • Provide oversight for the pre-production/implementation phase change management process
  • Manage and influence on- and off-shore development, integration, and quality assurance teams
  • Define long-term strategic technology roadmaps in line with business strategy and team
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • Extensive experience designing and building data warehouses utilizing the latest toolset's and platforms
  • Five or more years of working experience with data warehouses, data marts, and OLAP technologies
  • Two to three years of Analysis Services 2005/2008
  • Strong DBA skills with SQL Server 2008/2005 and/or Oracle 9i/10g
  • Extensive experience in SQL language and query optimization
  • Extensive knowledge of RDBMS, dimensional modeling, and data warehousing
  • Understanding of building security models for drill level access to cubes as well as within physical dimensional schema
  • Experience with agile methods a plus
  • Experience with data integration to the platform
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication skills—comfortable understanding and negotiating with users
  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Solid understanding of RDBMS concepts and experience with multiple database platforms a must
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle and SQL Server architecture and related tools a must
  • DBA and database tuning experience on Oracle or SQL Server a must
  • Data modeling experience a must
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling a must
  • Understanding of web technologies (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, XML) a plus
  • Knowledge of SOA methodologies and principles a plus
  • ETL/data staging experience with Informatica and SSIS a plus
  • BI tool experience, specifically Qlikview, Analysis Services Cubes and Reporting Services, a plus
